Meet Jhony Luna | Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhony Luna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhony, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Caracas – Venezuela, residing in Valencia – Carabobo state since I was 7 years old, I am an advertising professional and worked as a creative director in my Advertising Agency Design and Advertising Ocre, and since 16 years ago I decided to change my life and take my knowledge as a creative to my other passion ART and be a plastic artist today identifying my tendency as a POP FIGURATIVE.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love being a Pop Figurative artist, I am inclined to create works inspired by Horses which was my first motivation, then with bulls, bicycles which have also been my passion and a series of faces that I have given them the name of CARAJADAS, which consists of simplifying the images that I reflect in their minimum expression without defined proportions, in complete freedom and very colorful, leading the viewer to identify with these.
When I paint I have no defined colors or techniques, everything comes out according to the mixtures I make with brushes, spatulas, rollers, any tool I have at hand becomes an element to capture art on canvas, wood, glass or any surface, and every time someone acquires one of my works, the first thing they tell me is the good vibe they feel when they see my art and that fills me with pride and great satisfaction.
After working for 28 years in the advertising industry, with the knowledge in the graphic arts in terms of color mixing, I wanted to ignite a flame that I had kept but had not developed, and that is how 16 years ago I began to dedicate myself to the Plastic Arts among friends and began to participate in various exhibitions in my country and internationally.
It has been easy for me to develop as a plastic artist, I tell you that one day I was working in my Advertising Agency and I was sketching a design and it was at that moment that I felt like a CLICK and I said I want to start a new stage in my life and I told my wife Marianela what I wanted to do, and she told me ¨If that is what you are passionate about doing, do it¨ with her unconditional support and that way I have been able to capture my art for people to know.
I always try to overcome challenges, because I don’t put obstacles in my way, thinking that everything you propose you can achieve, telling myself ¨I CAN DO THIS¨, using logic, and being positive. I am also RUNNING and when I looked at my watch and saw that in a race I had a good pace to make a good time I demanded more to my body… life is like that …. do not give up …. if the goals are 10 Km, do one more.
Along the way I have learned many lessons: First to be honest with others… is, to be honest with yourself, when you promise something… fulfill it and don’t give excuses, be punctual to value time, sow good things to reap satisfaction. That the support of my family and friends is very important, I learned that dreams can be possible if instead of dreaming them, you plan them and put them into action.
I want the world to know that everything I do is trying to transmit good vibes and that many times a work of mine can make your day, I have had the joy of receiving comments that express that, which inspires me to move forward with more encouragement and desire.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is a small and charming coastal town, where I always enjoyed my vacations, called ¨CHORONI¨ in the state of Aragua – Venezuela, I tell them: My dad took his truck and took us to this tropical paradise where he was born, we left from the city …. and then began to climb a lush mountain to reach the town of Choroni where there are beautiful colonial inns and in 5 minutes you get to a spectacular bay full of palm trees, crystal clear waters and white sands, from the port you can take boats where you can visit other beaches without waves. Its drums, dances, music and people symbolic of this port area make it a place you will never forget.
When God made the world god had a hole in his backpack where he had the most beautiful things and they fell in CHORONI, I know that any of you would love this small town where we live the best moments you can have, hopefully at some point you can visit it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I was a child I was always painting and sketching, that’s why my uncle Manuel Antonio Luna told me: Jhony…don’t stop painting, because someday this will be very important for you and today I agree with him, what at the beginning was a hobby, became a passion. To my father Miguel Luna who when I told him I wanted to study advertising, he told me if that’s what you like…do it and be constant to achieve your goals, and to the artist René Busnego who with his advice, technique and talks always motivated me.
