We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Cashmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, how do you think about risk?
In my opinion risk taking is living life. I am not someone who wants to play life safe. I enjoy the thrill of taking risks in my life because that is when I know I am growing. I dream to help make a difference in this world and I know I can’t do that in my comfort zone. Ever since I was young I had big dreams and I knew those big dreams could crush me one day and people would talk about the failure (and trust me they have crushed me and people did talk) but that never seemed to scare me. What scared me was living a life of wondering “what if this idea of mine did work” or “what if people loved my business and it benefited the world?” Those thoughts scared me more than taking risks did.
When it comes to growing whether it’s a business or personally you have to take risks and I can tell you it’s the most rewarding thing when you do even if you fail because you learn so much about yourself and the world.I get it, taking risks is scary. You’re putting yourself out there but the world needs people who will take risks. Starting Yachtz Club was hard and risky because I’m a 24 year old woman from Utah starting a yacht charter and luxury concierge business in Miami and when I moved to Miami I knew zero people. I feel like a small fish surrounded by sharks often but I have been blessed with this dream for a reason and I refuse to die knowing my gifts and passions were never used for the world. I have never regretted taking a risk whether it was a lesson learned or great success, it has always been worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Yachtz Club started out as a yacht charter company in Miami but has quickly grown to become a luxury concierge business that now offers luxury yacht charters, private jets and exotic car rentals to all of our clients. I feel it’s very important for our clients to not only be happy with our services but to also be able to slow down and enjoy the beauty of life in the moment. Our clients are always busy but we want to make it clear to them whether they’re flying high in the sky or sailing the ocean that life is precious and you need to enjoy this moment you have worked so hard for and we are here to help them relax and do that.
Getting to where we are today was not easy. There have been many nights of no sleep, staying in on the weekends and many days and nights of networking. Starting a business is a real grind. There are lessons to learn, many connections to make and money to save. People say I’m lucky I don’t work 9-5 which yes I am lucky but it’s many days of working 9am-11pm or later. There have been many challenges I have gone through that people don’t see. There are many months I just pray I have enough money for rent because most of the money goes to the business right now. The most important thing I can tell you guys is to trust the process and to not give up. If you’re passionate enough about what you’re doing it’ll work out.
One thing Yachtz Club has coming soon that I am excited for is an exclusive club for people in Miami to join. Our club offers exclusive events, luxury getaways and elite services all around South Florida. Our purpose of the club is
to bring together a driven group of people in Miami who will become a lifelong community striving to be the best and to get the best perks and experiences living in Miami. We are teaming up with many influential people in Miami to make this happen so follow @Yachtz.Club on Instagram to find out more information on it. We will only be allowing a certain amount of members and the spots will go by fast.
One last thing I’d like to mention separately from Yachtz Club is that I have a podcast coming out soon called The One With Reality Feat. A Blonde And A Redhead. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course my number one thing for people to do when they visit Miami is to charter a yacht. It gives them a little taste of what it’s like being a local in Miami and allows them to see all the beauty Miami has to offer. During their yacht charter we would take them to see the historic Stiltsville. Ofter we have anchored around Stiltsville we would then head to Seaspice on the boat for happy hour and great food.
I would make sure to take them to the best pool party in South Florida at the Hard Rock Hotel called DAER. Not only is the guitar shaped hotel a must see but the music and views at the DAER pool party are hard to turn down. After that we would head down to South Beach for dinner and drinks at Mila or Santorini by Georgios.
A few other of my favorite spots to take my friends while visiting is Lincoln Rd. on Sundays for the farmers market, South Pointe for the sunset, Sugar in Brickell for great drinks and food, Bodega for cheap and amazing tacos, Adventura for shopping, and the Rusty Pelican for an unforgettable city view.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When it comes to my success there are a few people I need to shout out. The first would be my parents. They taught us how to not only dream growing up but how to work for your dreams to make them come true. They are the definition of hard work. I have watched how they run their businesses and how they benefit people with their business and I want to do the same. My love for the yachting industry came from my dad as I watched him chase his dream of buying a yacht and sailing the beautiful ocean with his family. Sailing the ocean is something everyone should get to experience and that is why I started Yachtz Club.
Next I would like to thank my siblings. They have been there cheering me on ever since I decided to leave our little home town. They are always there when I need advice, help or someone to talk to. They are my little team that always has my back and I’m beyond grateful for them.
Lastly I would like to thank Bob Denison, president and founder of Denison Yachting, because he has taught me the importance of making everybody feel important. Whether it’s your client, a friend or a stranger, everybody you cross paths with in life should feel important because you never know what kind of an impact you may make on their lives. He has also taught me that being different from the crowd is the best thing you can be.
