We had the good fortune of connecting with Suzanne1 Kludt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suzanne1, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
That’s actually an easy question to answer! My family had experienced unexpected and tremendous loss over a period of a few years (not to mention the COVID-19 pandemic that we all faced) and myself and my two daughters found our physical and mental well-being completely out of balance. We’d heard about CBD products for health and wellness and believed in marrying Eastern and Western medicine together, so the hunt was on for which products to try. WOW, there were so many! With hundreds of variations, ingredients, and claims – it was mind-boggling. If we were having these difficulties, there must be many more of us out there struggling to find a product that was represented correctly. That made it an easy choice to start a company that could be trusted. We wanted to ensure our “flock” could feel their best through access to USDA Certified Organic CBD products. We had a steadfast commitment to sourcing all products from other female business owners and put together a great team of women from various ethnicities, religions, ages, backgrounds, etc., to get Glass Cardinal off the ground. Our continued mission is to empower all to feel their best through plant-based products while giving back to people and communities that would not otherwise have access to CBD products. Although we are a for profit company, we operate with a community based, not for profit mindset.
What should our readers know about your business?
Being in business is never easy, but it’s damn fun and rewarding. There’s something to be said about having control of your own life, even during hard times of entrepreneurship. Courage helps us overcome the challenges, and having an inner strength to press on comes in handy most days! The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the years is “reacting” – how I react to obstacles, how I react to negativity, etc., that’s all up to me. If I feel negative, down, defeated, it becomes a belief and can be contagious to my staff. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about just having a positive attitude, it’s truly about the mission behind our company and why we do what we do that sustains us. At Glass Cardinal, we have a responsibility in assisting others to feel good and live their best lives.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Oregon Coast! There is something magical about many coastal spots in Oregon. The ocean is a great, peaceful way to recharge our inner batteries. Hitting all the local eateries, art galleries, boutiques and other shops featuring local artists is icing on the cake.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first shoutout goes to my daughters who inspire me everyday to forge forward. They are amazing young adult women that continue to put their community first through countless volunteer efforts and through heartfelt, meaningful, non-judgemental interactions on an every day basis with all people they come into contact with. My second shoutout is to ALL women who pave the way for other women to be brave, show up for themselves and others, and light up the world. I’m honored to be a part of many women based organizations that fearlessly work each day to make sure that no woman ever feels alone in this ever-changing world we live in!
