We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Gomez Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I believe what we call risk taking is viral in all aspects of life. But truthfully speaking, I am not sure why we even call it risk taking, if is something you fully believe on, then there should be NO loses. I think is the inner fear we build up and listening to the wrong people what makes it a risk mostly. To me, I am daily trying to gown and learn in my craft no matter the loud noises, which could be define as fears, doubts, others opinion, etc. But is a daily progress not a an instantaneous change. I believe practice makes growth (As hard as the process is. Which by the way, it is). Growing, going full force to evolve not only as a person but within your arts and craft, and figuring that out is a risk. Is a daily risk, because of all the cons that it evolves. But it will always have more pros than cons. I thank God for the daily strength and growth that He has giving me, not only in a personal level but as an artist. Some days are a struggle, but He always gives me the victory. Is the fact of educating yourself into that consistency, DAILY. And even if it might not seem worth it some days, keep pushing. It will be one day. BUT, I am learning that enjoying and living with purpose in my arts and crafts is just as important as getting the job. The beauty, the growth, the fun, is in the day to day. In my experience, God is always in control, but you got it do your part of having a willing heart backed up with actions, to take those risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets me apart from others is the same thing that sets us all apart. We are individual. Our own person, with our own personalities, perspectives, background, etc. We are all humans but we are all different. Furthermore, honestly, what I am most proud of is where I am right now. I started as a filmmaker, I still am, but now I am exploring, and getting to find myself as artist and flying within (wish I could in physical life but that would most likely fail, unless I have a parachute). I am proud of now. The present. Which is technically all we have. The present. To answer the following question, I have no idea how I got to where I am today. I have stumble a lot but God has gotten me up every time. Having a reset, figuring yourself out, letting you just be, is the best sensation. Well, there’s of course a mix of emotions within that but mostly, the best. Is because of God’s love and mercy that I am actually breathing today. I have learn and still are learning to play with my arts and craft. And by that I don’t mean to lock discipline but to enjoy it as you do it. To me, the more you let yourself be and just express out a thought, an idea, a story etc, that’s the whole point. I think that we are our own limitation. I know I have been in the past. Sometimes we judge our work even before voicing it or writing it and so we keep on editing it in our heads. But the more we let go of our pride cover by popular opinion or our own, self doubt and else, the more our genuineness and authenticity there’ll be in you and in your arts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely, to eat to Havana Harry’s restaurant in Coral gables. Amazing Cuban food (yes, I am Cuban). Then, if in summer season, probably kayaking to Bahia Honda by the keys. And might as well hang around the keys too. For night time, hang on Bayside, since you have an amazing view and a good variety of places to grab a glass of wine. Also, a good places to go to is the art vessel (within season) and the Wynwood walls are very inspiring, very urban. There’s also Bayfront park, South Pointe, Collins Ave, Vizcaya Park, etc. There’s lot of great places in Miami to visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My number one and only has always been my brother. That little (in age not size) guy is always encouraging me and pushing me to greatness. He has believe in me even when I haven’t be able to believe in myself. Even if his path is different than mine, he understands me. Understands the struggle. God has use him greatly in my life and his words have been of great encouragement during rough circumstances. I thank God so much for His life. He is extremely talented and smart. I am not saying it because he is my brother, but He is brilliant and he has the kindness, most tender heart ever!
