We had the good fortune of connecting with Tuyen Le and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tuyen, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Happiness is an odd concept. I realized a couple of years ago that materials, fame, and even some achievements made me feel more empty. The happiest I have ever been is when I’m working towards something I genuinely care about then accomplishing it. For example, getting a dance move I worked on for hours or days or getting that photo you planned for weeks and had to wake up at 4am for then editing for hours. Is all of the stress, sweat, and surprise problems make it worth it? Yes. Yes it does. That’s my happiness.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As cliché as it sounds, passion and perseverance really can set someone apart. When I first started photography, I made a commitment to learn something about the craft everyday for a year and take whatever project that’s available. No matter how tired or how busy I was, I would edited a photo, learn new editing techniques or go out to take photos of anything. I believe thats what helped me grow quickly in the professional field of photography.
It’s never easy but it’s fun. When I was in my teens, the best learning experience was being thrown in the work and learning from my mistakes. That experience and advice has always stuck with me into my adult jobs and my art. Being uncomfortable is the best way to grow professionally and personally.
My story is a little odd because I got into photography because of a break up. I always wanted to do something with I can create with a team of people but never took it serious. I was in sales and customer service for majority of my working career. Photography really did save me from me. I picked up my first camera at 27 and now I’m 30. For any new artists getting into a new craft, it’s never too late to start something new because everyone is different. Remember to have grace and be patient with yourself. You’re only human. Also, don’t forget to laugh often.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love hitting up bars, art walks, and museums. Basically, any place that you can’t go outside of South Florida. I love going to the Design District in Mid town Miami. Great place for any creatives to do video shoots or photoshoots. Wynwood is great but sometimes just a little too busy to me. Flagler Village in Fort Lauderdale or Downtown Fort Lauderdale always has a great vibe. I love asian cuisines. Pho Bar, Phuc Yeah, and Ichimi are great places. Obviously, we have some of the best beaches in the world. And if you want to see something exciting and different, go to a dance battle. Florida has some of the best dancers in all of the US. It’s so much fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My best friend, Brendan Byrne. Thank you for being one of my biggest supports in the creative field. Whether it was dancing to my photography, You always said you were proud of me even when I didn’t feel like I deserve it. Thank you for letting me use your gear, putting me on projects, and just listening to me rant about life. Thank you big bro!
