We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Arekion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I really like the quote: The higher the risk, the higher the reward.

I think I’ve only reaaaaallllyy started taking risks in the last year in both my personal life & career.

I truly believe that if you are facing something that feels “risky” then I’ve always said that I know that I’m supposed to do it & God wants me to do it if I feel at peace when thinking about taking that risk. In this year 2022 I’ve made it a point for myself to take more risks and push my own boundaries, I believe the most growth happens outside of your comfort zone. At this point in my life and career, I don’t shy away from anything that feels like a risk and rather see it as an upcoming challenge I’m excited to take on & experience.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a creative hairstylist + I like to explore other mediums or avenues such as painting, embroidering, drawing, blogging + content creation. I think what set’s me apart from others is my background, being from England and now living in the US and what I draw inspiration from. Coming from a multi-cultural family and living in London for the first half of my life had a major impact on me, I think it is what may set me apart in my vision and where or how I draw influences as a creative. To name a few things that I have done that I’m proud of; my salon: girl, my creative portfolio and my blog messypot.

I got to where I am today by the help of a number of people, years of hard work + perseverance. I wouldn’t say it was easy, I don’t think anything in life that is worth the wait comes easy. I think having a solid support system is what helps me overcome challenges, I am also quite stubborn, when I set my mind to something I am determined to finish it- it’s a saucy combination when you mix stubborn and solid support system. Three biggest lessons I’ve learned are: to give myself permission to try new things, always be open to learning + to stay true to myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oooh, okay. I am a creature of habit so I would probably take my BFF to: Speed Art Museum, 21c – eat @ Proof on Main, visit a few boutiques off Bardstown road, my personal fav: Acorn Apparel – probably checkout Logan St. Market + some local eats, I’d probably visit Kashmir, Nam Nam Cafe, Sapporo + I’d probably convince them to go on a little road trip with me out of Louisville to Nashville or Cincinatti or Indy. I guess I’m kinda cheating saying that……. but it’s true. Like let’s go on an adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my family, bffs Candace + Darah, my hair mentor: Tracy Rogers, my daughter + God.
