We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Trage and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Hi! My name is Pamela Trage and I’m a professional interior designer. I grew up in Oak Park, Illinois a suburb right outside of Chicago. My love for design was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright the world renowned architect and designer. As a young girl I remember walking past his historic homes that are sprinkled throughout the area and being totally mesmerized by the beauty of the masterpieces sitting in front of me. My designs and creativity are influenced as well by nature and humanity. I try to spend time every day studying nature and building on the concept of bringing the outside in.
I started my career working in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. I was surrounded by endless talent, beauty and ingenious. I learned so much about design and business that I feel totally blessed to have the incredible opportunities that have led me to where I am today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a small business that provides a specialized interior design service to homeowners and businesses that are looking to level up their personal and professional environments. I have experience with luxury residential new builds, yachts, complete renovations, commercial offices, model homes and healthcare environments. Our projects range from multi-million dollar estates to mid-size condominiums.
What sets my business apart from others is that I take the time to listen. Programming is so important in design because every project is different. Each and every client has a vast array of needs, wants and budget requirements. It’s necessary to ask the appropriate questions and to make sure the scope of the project is planned accordingly and meets the needs of the client. Design is where function meets form and if done properly creates astounding beauty.
I’m constantly learning and every day is a new beginning. I spend a lot of time expanding my knowledge in the design arenas. For instance, last week I attended the Cruise Ship Interiors Expo in Miami and learned so much about cruise and yacht design. I met a few brilliant designers from Austria and had a great time. Additionally, continuing education is a way to stay up to date on the latest and greatest. Success is not easy. Achieving your dreams requires hard work, long hours, and self motivation. If you are not changing and learning, you are not growing. I’m constantly surrounded by people who are masters in their field. Staying open minded, humble and grateful are requirements for the entrepreneurial spirit. I’m thankful every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, I would ask my guests what they would like to do and develop a plan from there. I would suggest going to the beaches for a long walk and a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean. I would definitely suggest a day or two in Miami, including South Beach and to experience the night life and the beautiful Art Deco style buildings along the strip and surrounding areas.
The historic architecture is amazing along the coast. I would definitely plan a day in the design district to visit the unique stores and spend the afternoon shopping. Walking down Biscayne Blvd and varying off on the side streets and discovering the extraordinary small businesses tucked into the fabric of the community is amazing and tells a story of different cultures, customs and pleasures. For instance, one morning I was walking down the street looking for an authentic Cuban coffee and much to my delight found a fabric store that had exactly what I was looking for an existing project.
I believe the most important activity that you can do is talk with the locals who live and work in the community. These are the people with extensive knowledge and a pulse on the area.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to everyone that has shared my journey with me. To anyone who is standing in their truth and living their dreams and passions. I have learned so much about life and myself from all who dare to be authentic, and stand up for what they believe in. I have had so many wonderful mentors, clients and friends over the years that the list is endless…. To all I am grateful!
