Meet Sean Perry | Violinist & Fiddler

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My parents have definitely been the most important factor behind my success. They’ve supported me throughout my entire time as a student, and continue to provide support through aid with marketing, booking, and financial support.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up playing Irish Fiddle, and yet today, I’m the concertmaster of Miami University’s Symphony Orchestra. It certainly wasn’t easy to get here; upon my entry to college, I had to quickly adapt to a new environment that called for professionalism, leadership & a type of musicianship that I’d not yet developed. I spent HOURS in the practice rooms with recordings, a metronome, and my instrument. I spent time studying the music, learning it by heart, and figuring out how to lead by example. It’s been a long road, and I’m nowhere near finished with my story! I aim to one day play in a professional orchestra & record film soundtracks.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m more of a homebody than anything, so we’d probably just stay in — unless there was a concert in town. I’d love to bring my bestie to a concert by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dr. Harvey Thurmer, my violin professor at Miami University, has been a huge help to me over the past few years. He’s helped me figure out better ways to approach the violin & music as a whole. I look at music differently now thanks to him.
