We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Crystal McLeod and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Crystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially when starting my business, I recognized that I had too much energy and talent that was not be fostered. I started my business during my last year of active duty in the Air Force. During this time, I realized a few things. I realized that women in leadership were not thriving, women entrepreneurs were not thriving, women business owners were not thriving and overall women in their careers were not thriving. I was a woman in leadership and I was not thriving. I was surviving in an environment that was no longer healthy for me. As a therapist I would spend so much time trying to help women thrive in their careers, but there continued to be no change in the work environments that they were going to daily. So, I decided that it was time to change systems not people. Supportive systems help people thrive, broken systems keep people in survival mode. So, what we do is create wellness programs and policies for business and organizations that support the mental wellness of their employees as well as train leaders on the importance of their own mental wellness and the that of their employees. We also offer trainings focused on mental health and leadership.
What should our readers know about your business?
Crystal McLeod and Associates is a mental wellness service that provides, executive leadership and clinical training for businesses and organizations. We also create wellness programs and policies that support mental wellness in the work place. In addition, we provide one on one mental health services to individuals and families as well. As a new business we are constantly growing and scaling. The journey has not been easy but we are consistent. Consistency is how we have managed to meet small business goals one quarter at time. What I have learned along the way is working hard for my business is just as important as working hard for someone else’s organization. What I would like to the world to know about us is we have so much more to show you, we have so much more to share about this story and we are excited for the future.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I am a gym rat, so every day we will be doing some type of physical activity. I love Soul Spin, I love to lift weights, I run a lot and also enjoy hiking. My city is a big foodie city. There are so many places to eat here so working out comes in handy. We would start our day off with a good workout and healthy breakfast, shopping is always fun in big cities, even if it’s just to window shop. We would likely return back to my place after shopping to relax before we hit the town and enjoy a nice evening and night out. This would likely be a weekend schedule. During the week we would definitely be tourists. I love being a tourist even in cities where I live. I have been to 38 countries so far so I love to find new things to discover and see. I have lots of energy so we will be moving constantly for sure. My friends and family love visiting because they know we will have a blast.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who I can credit to keeping me motivated throughout my business journey but most importantly throughout my life. My advice to anyone looking to be successful in any part of their life is to have a solid tribe. Keep people in your corner that will motivate you, encourage you and support you, but ensure that those people are going to be honest with you, correct you and lead you in the right direction.
