We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Bullock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stephanie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We are personable! We are able to put ourselves in our clients shoes and provide a service that we would want to receive. We love getting to know our clients, chatting with them and making them feel good from the inside out.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started Stephanie Bullock Makeup when I was 18. Growing up, I spent hours watching makeup tutorials on YouTube and product reviews. I knew that when I was old enough, I wanted to work as a Makeup Artist for MAC Cosmetics. The summer after my first year of University (I was taking Communications & Business Management), I decided to take the Makeup Artistry course at Algonquin College to get me closer to my goal. One day, my instructor approached me and asked me if I would be willing to be her assistant for a wedding she was doing makeup for. I was so honoured. After working with her on-location for that wedding, I knew I wanted to specialize in wedding makeup.
I still went on to work for MAC Cosmetics while building my business & going to University full-time. I started utilizing social media to promote my work (it was mainly Facebook at the time). Fast forward 5 years later, I graduated from my University program and had a decision to make: was I going to work full-time in my field of study or take my business full-time? I ended up working for 6 months in my field of study before deciding to take Stephanie Bullock Makeup to the next level.
My biggest challenge has been finding a work-life balance. I absolutely love what I do; I find it hard to disconnect from my business or say no! At one point, I was working every single day and I suffered from burn out. I knew I had to pivot and hire people to help if I wanted my business to continue to expand (and live a healthy life!). The best thing I did was build my team and learnt to delegate – I love every single one of my artists and they have greatly contributed to the success and growth of Stephanie Bullock Makeup.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I absolutely love wine and cheese, so probably a day at a winery! My family also has a spot on Mississippi Lake and we enjoy spending time by the water, tanning during the day, watching sunsets/having bonfires in the evening. Basically, my ideal spots are anywhere with good food/drinks and pretty views!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family for always supporting everything I do & my team for helping me get to where I am today.
