Anthony Hervey | Trumpeter, Composer, and Teacher

I often think of this quote from Viktor E. Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning: “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” Viktor Frankl was a survivor of the holocaust. Despite the horror and hopelessness of that environment, he chose to maintain a spirit of optimism and create something meaningful out of the experience. There is much in life that is beautiful, but there is also so much pain. We are constantly reminded of that fact every day. There is freedom to be found in the courage to endure and persevere despite doubt and uncertainty. One of the reasons I love music so much is that it helps me find a place of calm in the storm, allowing me to appreciate what is beautiful. I’m thankful that God chose to give me a gift that allows me to articulate the complexity of what it means to be human and to be able share that with others in a way that is beautiful. Read more>>

I have many quotes and affirmations that I love and are very inspiring to me. The most important one is “Do more of what makes you happy!” This is my daily reminder of being the best version of myself as well as giving others the best of me. It creates a positive energy and aura in the atmosphere wherever I go or whatever I set my mind to do that the outcome is rewarding. This quote is the fuel to keep on thriving. It brings a burst of pure joy in my heart. Most definitely, makes me smile. =) in other words Don’t worry….be happy! song by Bobby McFerrin. Read more>>

“Don’t lose your focus” We firmly believe entrepreneurship is both a great opportunity and a challenge and it requires specific habits and behaviors in order to be successful. We think it’s important for every entrepreneur to set and keep in mind their focus, stick to it and leave aside anything else that might be distracting – Sometimes it is tempting to take opportunities that arise along the way that could distract you from your main goal. Everything happens for a reason. I know it’s cliche but growing up you never really thing about why things happen and working in the music/entertainment industry things definitely happen that are out of your control but further on down the line you realize that things happen and really do lead to opportunities that allow you to grow in your career. My favorite inspirational quote is “If your dreams don’t scare you, they are too small”. I love this quote because I think we are taught to be an adult quickly in this world and always have responsibilities and we ignore our inner child and what makes us happy. It always inspires me to dream bigger about anything I desire and to never limit myself. Read more>>

Purpose Don’t Need Permission – this is a quote that came to mind very early on when I started my business. To me, it means that each one of us walking this earth has a god given purpose and assignment on our lives. It’s something that is innate and specific to the person. It’s something that you’re gifted to do in a way that only you can do it. Whatever that purpose is, there is no one that needs to give permission for operating in that purpose. It’s something you should do unapologetically and regardless of who does or doesn’t support it. Your purpose don’t need permission!. Read more>>

My favorite quote has to be “If you don’t have the time to do it right, where will you find the time to do it over?” This was extremely important to me earlier in my career as a chef and it never left me. A lot of people do things half-heartedly and realize they should’ve done it 100% the first time. Then one of two things happen: ONE: they do it over and it usually costs way more time and sometimes more money (depending on what we’re talking about) than it initially did or TWO: they don’t do it at all and leave it for someone else to fix/finish or just simply never fix the problem. So many people want to run before they crawl and that is how you miss a lot of things and it always ends up costing more in the end. Read more>>

Camilla Barcan | Jewelry Designer, CEO & Founder of Camilla Limón

This is such a perfect question because Camilla Limón has been built on the power of words! There are way too many affirmations that make my heart sing, but the phrase “You Are Resilient” from Rupi Kaur’s poem is my go-to of the moment. The poem speaks on the inner resilience and beauty of women. Reminding us that we can move mountains; we are brave, we are strong, we are resilient. Through all that life throws at us, the rejections, the loss, the bad days, especially now after the crazy year we’ve just had during the pandemic, I have these words on repeat. It’s what pushes me to continue to pivot as an entrepreneur, instilling in me that there is always light on the other side. Read more>>

“Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” ― César A. Cruz When I started painting I realized that although I love and appreciate art where the main goal is beauty it was not my goal, I wanted my art to have an impact on the world, to inform, reflect, and evoke strong emotions. It was my desire and need to show how the world affects people and how people affect the world. This quote by César A. Cruz, the Mexican poet and human rights advocate, resonates deeply with me. It confirmed that my desire to shake things up and bring light to certain issues in the world was alright. It made me realize that some people might find my work beautiful and some might find my work ugly and disturbing and that’s alright too. Read more>>

I can say I’m collecting different quotes and phrases that famous people of the past said. But lately, I’m been thinking about this one: “ Whether you think you can or you can’t either way you right “ Henry Ford. I feel like everything I achieve in life was because I truly believe that I going to have it. And I know that all fears it’s only in our head. You can change your life for 360• if you dare to dream, work, and believe. So it’s a good reminder for me and a lot of people that only you decide who you want to be and what is possible in your life. Read more>>

Sharonda Stewart | Owner | Sporty Mommas, LLC

One of my favorite quotes is “Nothing beats a failure but a try”. My neighbor used to say it all of the time. I am not quite sure who said it first but it has stuck with me since I was in high school. Whenever I am thinking about taking a risk or starting something new, I find myself reciting that quote and taking the leap. It’s true we have to go for it. What’s the worst thing that could happen. If it doesn’t work out as planned, turn your no’s into next opportunities. Read more>>

“Beauty is a form of genius–is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation.” — Oscar Wilde Because my video art is based so much in esoteric glamour, I sometimes get frustrated with how superficial it can seem. I try to keep in mind that beauty and glamour are languages with their own rich histories, and with them I can express ideas I couldn’t say with words alone. Read more>>
