“I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.” Vincent Van Gogh. To me, this quote speaks on many levels. It is taken literally since I do in fact, see so many colors uniquely found in the night. But it is also taken metaphorically since life has shown to be very different than what meets the eyes. Often, our darkest nights are the reason for our brightest days. This quote by Van Gogh is heavily carried with me as an artist and as a human. I believe it is clearly shown in my art, since my main subject itself, is the night sky, dark moody days, as well as the unseen things of this universe. As far as an affirmation, I remind myself that only I can do what I do. Read more>>

I can not say that there has ever been “one” quote that has been my favorite. I find or hear quotes and if I like them I’ll run with it for a while until I find a new one that suits my current state. As humans we are constantly changing (at least most of us are) and I think its that constant change that makes me fall in love with new quotes/affirmations. Since I started my marketing business, a year and half ago, I’ve had to deal with many unpredictable moments where frustration and doubt creep into the mind. In those moments is when I search for some sort of new inspiration to get me over that hurdle. So you see, I am always looking for the next uplifting quote. k I will tell you that currently I have been binging all the podcasts that Matthew McConaughey has been on promoting his new book, Greenlights (highly suggest picking up a copy). There’s a haunting line in “Providence,” the final track of Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s debut F♯ A♯ ∞ that is repeated several times: ‘Where are you going? Where are you going?’ It’s stuck with me since I first heard it in college and I take it literally – it’s a good reminder to ask myself what exactly am I doing with this task, this project, or my life in general. Where am I going? I’ve entertained the notion of getting it tattooed across my right hand, along my wrist or thereabouts, so I can see constantly see it and remember to be on the right path. Do it because you love yourself… not because you don’t! The journey to self-love is just that, a journey, not a destination. We all want to love the skin we are in but doing so can be complicated if we have internalized messages from diet culture (https://www.vidanutrition.com/diet-culture/). Diet culture, which glorifies unrealistic body types and food restriction, is part of why on average women have 36 negative thoughts about their body and/or their food intake per day. I get it, it’s tough. We live in a body shaming society that says if you look a certain way you should do whatever it takes to not look that way… whether it be have thicker eyebrows, shrink your tummy, change your skin tone, the message is the same… change yourself to feel better about yourself. I have many. I think for the purposes of this interview – I’ll select two: 1. Nothing will work unless you do – Maya Angelou 2. When you are on the path of your bliss – doors will open that you never knew where there to be opened. – unknown The first quote is so relevant to being an entrepreneur, in my opinion. You can have a great idea, and people can give you all the praise in the world – but every business is not necessarily “if you build it they will come.” Most business go – if you build it, and work really, really, really hard 24/7, they will come. I remember when I was a little girl, my brother was one of those kids that excelled in everything – sports, academics – everything. He was always number 1. As he grew older and competition grew fiercer, he was frustrated that things did not come as easily to him. More work was required to excel. Read more>>

“Joy attracts more joy. Happiness attracts more happiness. Peace attracts more peace. Gratitude attracts more gratitude. Kindness attracts more kindness. Love attracts more love.” Rhonda Byrne It just makes sense. And it is very hard especially with the times we are in right now to not think negative or to complain about things. So I read it first thing in the morning and I try to keep this with me throughout the day. So like Rhonda Bryrne says “Whatever feelings you have within, you are attracting your tomorrow.” So how nice it would be to be joyful, happy, peaceful, grateful, kind, and full of love daily. Just like our saying “Spread love & spread jam.” Read more>>
