We had the good fortune of connecting with Abhi Kanthan, AIA, NCARB and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abhi, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is “Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication” by Leonardo da Vinci.

It is very easy to ramble on and on when speaking or taking forever on work tasks, but the most important and best communicated ideas are conveyed with simple phrases or easy to understand images. I really appreciate this quote because if a task or idea is taking much too long for me to convey, I am most likely not taking the time or effort to really understand the task and tell myself clear direction – let alone someone else.

When it comes to my work and personal life I tend to appreciate the small things more than the large gestures, as those small things are what are easily remembered.

For example, our Architecture and Design projects that we are most fond of can be understood by a child and appreciated by everyone. The complex buildings and forms are also beautiful but it takes a person much more time and energy to appreciate all the details. The more minimalistic a building, the more timeless it becomes.

I tend to focus more on making something “simple” to understand, which then allows a personal experience to be the “sophistication”.

What should our readers know about your business?
When it comes to Design, I try to focus on design at its idealist form, a form that can be easily recognized and enjoyed by all groups of people not only on a physical level but also on an intellectual level. Design in architecture is a prolific art that continues to grow and nurture. That is why I practice architecture. The more I continue to practice, eventually I will get it to perfection.

Starting a business is an extremely scary task if you do not really know what you are doing. Not only trying to create revenue, my Team and I also had to be aware of legal Agreements that protect the company and limit our exposure to liability, employee benefits and compensation, how to handle licensing and reciprocity in other states that we practice, constant marketing and growth strategies as well as implementing our Business plan. I had to always remind myself that you have to work for more than just making money or keeping the doors open. There was a passion that started this Business and I had to keep that fuel burning in order to sustain our Success.

People hire us because of our Customer Service and Timeliness more than anything. We are about 10-years old now so our proven Design Process continues to be one of the most efficient systems around. Our Team of highly motivated and energetic Design Professionals can meet deadlines faster than our competition because we pride ourselves on our very high level of transparency and accessibility to our clients. Our clients can email me, the President & CEO, directly anytime without getting lost through corporate heirarchy.

What sets me apart from most Architects was that when I became licensed to practice Architecture in Florida, I was the youngest licensed and registered Architect in the State of Florida being 24 years old. I had finished my schooling in 5 years with a Professional Bachelor of Architecture degree from Florida Atlantic University and started taking my exams while I was still in school through NCARB’s IDP program. I was more than elated that within 1 year of graduating, I was able to get licensed. I still have shivers and am extremely grateful till this day for my Counselors and Professors who guided me through licensure in this rigorous Profession.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My hometown is Delray Beach – one of the most beautiful cities in South Florida.

I would start my day off with brunch at Caffe Luna Rosa with a spinach eggs benedict and a chilled mimosa. After reflecting on the Atlantic Ocean immediately adjacent to my table, I would take a jog along the beach and even take a dip in the sun-kissed water.

During the day, I would either check out the many nature parks such as Gimbo Limbo or even take a day trip to one the Florida Keys like Marathon or Islamorada to take a boat out to some diving spots. If shopping is more your style, I would recommend going to Town Center Mall in Boca or CityPlace in West Palm Beach and take a scenic ride along A1A to get there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I give credit to God for allowing this wonderful life to exist so that myself and my family can continue to have satisfaction though various challenges. I also love to give credit to my wonderful wife Brenda Kanthan, who is not only my Business Partner, but my rock that continues to stabilize our Personal life while keeping our Work life balanced. I also love all our employees, consultants, and vendors that continue proving that #teamworkmakesthedreamwork .
