We had the good fortune of connecting with Adeel Zaman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adeel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of DOZR is that we are passionate about thinking big and solving complex problems. Being fearless in problem solving has allowed our team to think outside the box and take on tough challenges.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has spanned from being a Founder and CTO in AI, MedTech to now construction tech. There were lots of bruises and bumps along the way, but I would say the one conviction I have always had is to work relentlessly on projects that bring a positive impact to our society.

And that driving factor has helped me immensely in personally navigating challenges, but also in putting together teams that are driven towards a common mission, and resilient through the challenges that the startup world brings.

Currently, I get the chance to work with an exceptional team as the CTO & Co-Founder at DOZR. Every road, hospital, school, home and rocket that is built needs equipment. We are on a mission to help make it more efficient to rent and use this equipment, by transforming this $60B industry through marketplace and ecommerce solutions. We raised a $22 Series B earlier this year to fuel the next stage of our growth.

The other lesson I have learned through my career is to always give back. Prior to leading teams as CTO, I used to be an engineer just trying to learn and absorb anything I could find, and experienced failures frequently.

It was due to the help of a few experienced CTOs in my network who helped me understand how best to make that journey from engineer to CTO.

That help has been a big contributor to the impact I have been able to make through my ventures. It’s important to do the same and give back to the community. I try to do that through advising other tech companies, and supporting Highlander Engineering (an engineering club for highschool students). Through community and collaboration is how we will solve the world’s most impactful problems.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend is visiting, I may start out by taking them to Wharf for drinks and food on Friday night. If there was a Daybreakers Miami event the next morning, we will go there for an early morning workout. I would then take my friend for a bike ride from Bayside to South Beach, grab brunch at Watr, and hit up the beach after.

Miami has too many fun places to mention, but Dante’s HiFi in Wynwood is another that stands out with awesome vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to my Grade 7 teacher Mr. Parker. As a kid, I was obsessed with learning, and I always used to pester him for more assignments. He would run out of assignments from the curriculum to assign to me, and often would not have something to give me. So one day, he decided to ask me to prove Einstein’s famous equation e = mc^2.

This was a very innovative and out of the box task for a 10 yr old. I was far too young to write a
sophisticated proof for e=mc^2, and didn’t know most of the advanced physics and math prerequisites to fully understand the equation.

This task however put me on this several month long journey of reading any physics book I could find, failing lots along the way, and making a little bit of progress at a time.

The project instilled a culture of problem solving and belief in me from a young age. Everytime I failed at providing the full proof, he kept pushing me harder, and encouraging me that I could do it.

I think that belief towards tackling complex problems has helped me immensely in my career and entrepreneurship pursuits.

It helped me learn at a young age how to tackle a task that may seem impossible at first.
