We had the good fortune of connecting with Alan Phillip and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting a business has so many pros and cons! More pros than cons, and that’s why I decided to start my entrepreneurship journey! When starting, nothing makes sense and everything may seem overwhelming. Clarity, finding out your true purpose in business and life will help you keep going. Many quit, but I can tell you that after being in business for 9 years, it is worth it. I started my journey, because I wanted to have freedom, make my own schedule, determine my days off, have financial freedom, and much more. Believing in yourself and your abilities is the number one step! Deciding and taking action is number two. Not everything will go the way you want it to go, but there is beauty in failure, and there is beauty in asking for help. Don’t be afraid to ask a mentor how they do things, or even take a workshop in your field to get ahead quicker. Set high goals, set a budget, figure out your expenses, and be consistent with showing up for your business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? There are two components to my business! First, I am a Miami maternity and family photographer, capturing moments in a timeless manner. My end goal is to capture my families in a classic and organic way. I want my clients to feel guided, confident, and cared for throughout the entire experience with Alan Phillip Photography. My objective is for my clients to be proud of their photographs, that their photos will withstand the the test of time, and that my clients look at their photos decades from now, and still be very proud. I understand, and know that what I do is a serious job. With my camera, I tell their story, and freeze their most special milestones. Photography is an art, and I see my work as transformational. I adore capturing my clients beauty in a way and light that they haven’t seen themselves in. There is power in photographs. My photographs have brought families together, has made clients cry because they never knew how beautiful they truly were. Aside from taking pretty photos, I have an obligation to capture the true beauty and essence the subject/s that is in front of my camera. In our studio, we offer different ways to preserve their memories, my favorite being albums. An album of photographs from my client’s session will help them store and preserve their photographs in a delicate and curated form. Like I mentioned, we love to offer an experience. The second objective of my business to empower other business owners with the tools and resources they need to show up confidently and consistently on social media. There is a need in the market place for people who are lost at social media or business. When I started my business in 2012, I had to learn everything I know on my own. I looked for inspiration in other businesses, and learned from the best in my field. I learned how to show up with purpose, clarity, and I know help others find their voice, by guiding them to establish and perfect their brand presence. In my courses and business challenges my students find a strategy will help them attract the clients of their dreams, and will help them turn their followers in customers.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to say thank you to my mother for being my rock, my confidant, and the one who has always pushed me to after my dreams, and to go for more. Growing up, I learned from her drive and competitiveness. She never settled, and always maintained at the top of her career. I have always looked up to her tenacity and her ability to remain undaunted.
