We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Pilleris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexia, what inspires you?
My source of inspiration comes from the passion that I have about life itself; living life with freedom of expression in the forefront. I get inspired by the passion I have for helping and empowering people to be the best versions of themselves. I get inspired by people, faces, smiles. I get inspired while I’m in nature or I’m out and about doing something and a thought comes to my mind. I have a tiny journal in which I write down my thoughts. The core of my inspiration evolves around passion and the energy of excitement in everything I do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a European American citizen that has travelled and lived overseas and then moved to South Florida where I completed my Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am a licensed mental health counselor with 7 years of experience. I have worked with clients struggling with substance use, self esteem, loneliness, depression and anxiety in addition to helping individuals that have struggled to communicate effectively in their interpersonal relationships. I believe therapy is a journey of self discovery. Many times, people fear engaging in introspection to get to know themselves better whether it is to clarify their thoughts, explore their emotions and/or assess their behaviors. Engaging in introspection and self reflection to me is the most fundamental concept for self growth. I constantly travel, read, write and practice mindfulness daily to continue to grow and evolve as a human being. My passion for culture and languages is ongoing. I speak English, Greek, Italian and Spanish and am eager to add more languages as I go. I want people to know that life is not only moments and what you make of them, but your spirit that you carry with you as you move along.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start off with a Sunday brunch buffet at Nikki Beach. Later, I would take them to Little Havana and walk down Calle Ocho to see the Cuban neighborhood of Miami. We would stop for a pastelito at Versailles bakery. In the evening, we would take a nice walk on Lincoln road in Miami beach and relax at Segafreddo cafe. For dinner, I would head to MILA for a rooftop fine dining experience. The night would end with bachata and salsa dancing at various latin spots like Ball &Chain or Mangos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my lovely family and amazing friends!
