Meet Alfonso Villagran: Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alfonso Villagran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alfonso, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reason of my choice is that over my young childhood i suffered the loss of my dad, so i knew that i had to overcome that feeling by doing something and i felt that confidence of myself by painting.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been painting for 10 years till now, i can say somehow that im a lucky guy too beside my talent or whatever you wanna call it. Over the years i could gain my own style and thats how somehow you can attract most of the attention. There is no such a moment I’m proud, i think every year has left me something where i could learn and felt proud of myself. You get professional when you really want and know that you want to live of what you choose for your life and of course it’s never easy not only in this career i think I’m every career because life is not easy. The secret on how i overcome this challenges is never give up, insist and no doesn’t mean you are bad or your work doesnt work, keep it real and keep it true. I’m still looking the reason why i was born and why i am here, i know i came here to leave something or to teach something, I’m on my way to know more about that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well when I’m miami first of all, breakfast! Is the most exciting moment for me, it’s all about your first food of the day the most important, i would take them to bakance they have the best egg bennedict ever then i would take them to art and design places next to chill cool bars and of course! Taquiza best taco ever!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want recognize this shoutout to my family specially to my mother. She was always there for me and specially that time i wanted to leave everything about my career and that’s when she was there the most. She todo me once: you never leave what you choose for life. So mom i love you more than life.
