We had the good fortune of connecting with Alisa Apps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alisa, how do you think about risk?
I think taking risks makes life exciting. Every day in order to move forward and make changes and do something extraordinary in this world, you must take risks – some small, some big and some earth shaking.

In fact, taking risks has played the #1 role in my career. From saying “no” to Simon Cowell when he asked me if I would write songs for his artists, challenging Lady Gaga to a million dollar sing-off, to stepping into the ring as a professional boxer and also changing the game in music developing a new way, through boxing. I created a social media movement calling out the singers to fight and sing-off.

Its proven itself. It’s not a risk anymore. Entertainers are actually getting in the boxing ring and fighting professional fights. To me, big corporate music like Lady Gaga and Adele is now the era of boring farts and I aggressively oppose it.

I wanted my own identity and my own creations. I didn’t want to look like anything to do with what the bloated music labels were doing over there.

And risk taking is the only way to do it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others, I think, is that I am a hustler. It is one of the things Simon Cowell really liked about me and said, “You’re a hustler. I like that.”

The mainstream music executives refused my ideas. So to me, the doors that they closed on my new ideas, opened up new doors for me and now my creation is the biggest thing in entertainment.

I had to be creative to get to where I am today because I didn’t do anything standard.

As I become more notorious and newsworthy what I have learned is to KEEP GOING while fully expecting to get what you are after.

My brand is my motto: Let’s Keep Going! Right now, after years of people telling me that my way will never happen (mainly because the system was threatened by me and music journalists finding a way not to cover me because of my rebellious ways), it is now nice to see my creation & social media movement gaining so much huge attention.

My songs are also leading the way in this new movement. I’m doing what I sing in my song ‘Top Of the World’, “Strut it like I’m ten feet above the ceilings of Wall Street”.

Many people who are buying my Top Of The World album are saying that this album is life changing for them. One inspired super fan lost 164LBS, started their own restaurant and named a sandwich after me in their restaurant. People are listening to the album hundreds of times and play my fight songs to get pumped for their day.

I think the growing interest in me is because of what I have to say in my music. It’s a new huge sound with intelligent compositions, empowering lyrics and amazing vocals.

When people see me sing live and hear my voice they buy the album. They want product in hand. I really am in control of my business from A to Z. Now I am personally designing new Alisa Apps “Killer On The Mic, Murderer In The Ring” t-shirts that go to print on Friday. People are wanting multiples before they even go to print.

I always thought it was stupid for singers to sign to these big record labels with no idea what they are getting into and then are controlled for the rest of their music life As far as I am concerned, Alisa Apps didn’t fit into any of that controlled world. “I’m sitting on top of the world because I don’t belong in it. I just don’t fit, I sing in ‘Top Of The World’. I don’t fit musically with their producers or lyrically and I don’t fit businesswise either.

I can’t relate to being told what to wear or what producers & songwriters I have work with – this is not part of my mentality. You cant get much worse than that. Especially when you sing, write great songs, fight and are willing to take big-time risks like I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
How can you go out on a week-long trip to these places when you are taking risks and running your own businesses? So, for me this doesn’t happen. One day maybe I’ll try.

My favorite spot would be anything by the ocean and eating stone crab claws.

For stunning views check out my music video ‘Top Of The World’. I picked filming in Guatape, Colombia then came back to Miami to finish filming over the Rickenbacker Causeway, riding on a motorcycle

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can name one person who I want to give a shoutout to who deserves recognition; his name is Terry. Terry and I are in the same racecar lane we are risk takers and I have been counted out by many in the past because I had a vision and new ideas. Terry, on the other hand, was not only prepared to pay attention to my vision but he took my new ideas seriously and partnering with him enabled me to forge a new way into both the music and boxing businesses.

He is a visionary and he gravitated to me, and so this is what we did – seriously rocked the boat!
