We had the good fortune of connecting with Amsi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amsi, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Music has always driven me almost since the day I was born. I have always loved performing and singing, and I just never wanted to stop. I am incredibly lucky to have a support system that encouraged my dream and helped me get to the place where I am now. I don’t think I could ever picture myself outside of a creative field.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The arts have always been a part of Desi culture from the architects of the Taj Mahal to the composers of Bollywood music, we literally have it all. I recently watched some of my old home videos, and one of the first albums that I memorized was “Dil To Pagal Hai.” I would dance to that album day in and day out. It was incredibly inspiring and it really formed my first experiences with Bollywood and Pop music, which is what I now use to create my music today. Everything that I write is deeply personal and has some sort of messaging that strives to empower the listener. It took a while to get to where I am now, and I am still growing. I think half the battle with music is mentality. You have to believe in yourself when no one else does, and continue to push when no one else pushes you. Ego and comparison are the thieves of happiness, so make sure to create a safe space for yourself when the world is throwing a lot of noise your way. My safe space allows me to create music that I love and cherish and no one can take that away from me. I hope that people can feel confident and empowered when listening to my songs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from NYC, so I would have a lot to show my friend if she was visiting. Ideally I’d like to take her to a mixture of touristy spots as well as places that aren’t so well known to tourists. The big spots to hit in Manhattan are Central Park, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Hudson Yards, Washington Square Park, SoHo, etc. There is a wonderful commuter ferry that goes from 34th Street to Wall Street and makes stops in Brooklyn, and it shows you a view of Manhattan from the East River Side. Before COVID-19 the ferry also had snacks and drinks available for commuters to enjoy and all at reasonable prices. I’d take that ferry and head to Dumbo and enjoy a picnic under the Brooklyn Bridge. Then I would take my friend on the Ferry to Wall Street and head to a Stone Street because it is so beautiful and all the restaurants are amazing. There are a lot of high end restaurants in NYC, but I usually like taking people to lesser known restaurants to try. One of my favorites spots currently is GupShup, which is a new Indian restaurant that has some amazing food. I’d also take them to spots like Joe’s Pizza, which has some of the best slices of pizza in the city. There is also a pastry shop called Rocco’s nearby and their cannoli’s are to die for. Part of the beauty of NYC is that you never stop discovering new places to eat and spend time with your loved ones. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my manager Sara, and my producer Avanti, for always sticking by my side even when times are tough. They always encourage me to be better, work harder, and fight for my dreams. I am so lucky to have them in my life and I can’t wait to see what we achieve in the future.
