Meet Amy Stone | Creator, The Art of Imperfect Adulting

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Stone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My story is not unique. When my kids were very small I realized that a traditional work schedule didn’t fit perfectly for my family and so going to work for myself seemed like a good option. My business just started as an idea. I tend to get a lot of ideas but this one wouldn’t leave me alone. I am simply working to create something that I think there’s a need for in the world. If somebody else had built it first then maybe I would have applied to work with them as an employee instead of working to create something from scratch.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I launched The Art of Imperfect Adulting podcast in January 2025. I’m proud that it’s already in the top 10% of global podcasts by download statistics. I’m also proud that the show is already being nominated for awards and in March won an award. New ratings and reviews come in each week from people who are enjoying the show. The thing that’s most exciting to me at this early stage is that more than 250 people have already submitted requests to be a guest on the show.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week in Miami. I like to take people for a meal overlooking the water in Coconut Grove at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club or Bayshore Club. Any trip to Miami should include a visit to South Beach including a meal or takeout from Joe’s, Key Biscayne, Shark Valley in the Everglades and of course a day trip to the Florida Keys. Because I’m a longtime runner I will invite anybody who visits to check out either an event or a training run with one of the local run clubs. Of course, no trip to Miami would be complete without a meal at Flanigans and a Pubsub.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One of my long time personal mentors is Erma Bombeck. She was a syndicated humorous writer in the 1960s. She wrote about the most everyday events of a suburban woman.
