We had the good fortune of connecting with Amyrah Nicolas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amyrah, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever was to put my health first. I know it might sound crazy but I love meeting new people and communicating with the clients that sit in my chair. So when I found out I had COVID-19 I was balling my eyes out because not only was it my last week in my salon but also I had to cancel 30 appointments. I tried my best to delay my sickness but working 12+ hours a day and developing this sickness did not work well with my body.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business at 15, as classy styles. I was so eager to learn more about the beauty industry. The more I found the more I fell in love. I believe I am an artist because what I can create can be a masterpiece. Some people join the beauty industry because they think it’s easy money, but this is my craft, my talent. The proudest moment that I had in my business was hitting 120 clients in the month of December. Since I was 15 I’ve been promoting my business like crazy, and hitting over 100 clients made me cry tears of joy. Honestly having experience with clients made me business-wise. I am all about pleasing my customers, so hearing what they want, but also making sure it was profitable was what made me business-wise. Having a business is NEVER easy if it was for God and manifesting I would not be here. I was literally struggling to receive clientele, but I put my business on every single social media you can name and promote like crazy. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that ANYONE that sits in my chair will feel the JOY I have for doing hair. You will feel my passion, I’m an artist.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Me and my friends are always working but when we go out we always go to Mr. & Mrs. Crab and the beach after. we love riding along Fort Lauderdale or Miami beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Kemi, Ruth, April, Rolanda, Tiyanna, and my sweetheart Schneider for always believing in me. I would literally cry on the phone because never thought my business would flourish, now I have 50+ clients a month. Literally, all my friends have been my rock since I started my business. I owe them everything.
