We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Ricci and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Starting my practice has been a dream come true. It’s an unreal feeling to see the vision you’ve been creating since you were a little girl come to life.
But owning your own business in many ways is like becoming a parent. They say, “your life will change forever”, and it does.
When I became a mom I honestly thought I was more than ready for motherhood. I had an established career, I had been married to my best friend for 5 years, and it was the next practical step in this “life” I had envisioned.
But when my first was born, wow did my life change more than I could have ever imagined. My perspective changed, my priorities changes, and I had to re-establish who I “was”. Yes, I was still a daughter of Christ, still a wife, still an orthodontist, still a friend, but somehow I felt so different. I had to figure out how to still give 100% to my daughter, my family, my patients, while still taking care of myself so that I could take care of others.
And then I became a business owner. Another step I felt “ready” for. And just like parenthood, people told me how much life would change. And it did, again more than I could have imagined. Your mind never stops. Much like parenthood, you feel responsible for the lives of others, you feel pulled in many different directions, you feel like others are depending on you and looking to you for guidance.
Being a mom and a business owner and the two most rewarding and challenging roles I’ve ever had, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Though I do believe “With great power, comes great responsibility.”(thanks spiderman); the good news is, I don’t have to feel the “weight of the world” on my shoulders because I’m reminded of Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord, and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken.
So how do I find balance? I strive to give 100% to my work when I’m working and 100% to my family when I’m not. I try to stay full present, focused, and invested in my work when I’m there, and then try to do the exact same with my family (aka completely disconnect from work) when I’m with them. It is not always easy, but that is when I find the most peace. And most importantly, I lean on Jesus and rely on His strength and guidance.

What Makes Us Different?
YOU ARE FAMILY
At Ricci Orthodontic Studio, you will be treated as family. This is a practice created BY families FOR families. Dr. Alyssa G. Ricci and her husband and operations manager Jonathan Ricci, have united not only their unique skills, but those of their family and friends, to create this modern, boutique-style, family-friendly space. We want you to grow with us as we grow, treating your youngest child to your child’s grandmother.
ALL AGES ARE WELCOME
We specialize in individualized care for every age. Dr. Ricci has treated patients as young as 6 years old needing interceptive phase I treatment to a 90 year old needing to get her teeth out of traumatic occlusion so she can get out of pain while loving her smile.
QUALITY DOCTOR/PATIENT TIME
Dr. Ricci’s objective is to get to know each and every one of her patients, their unique case, and both their smile and life goals! Education is key. She wants each person to understand the VALUE behind their smile transformation. Our doctor-led consultations will give you the opportunity to spend quality time with Dr. Ricci. She will do a thorough clinical exam and spend time explaining the details of your case using the most up to date technology such as the newest iTero element 5D scanner to make sure you understand the needs and goals related to your treatment.
PRIVATE TREATMENT ROOMS
Our office is different than your traditional orthodontic office with an open bay concept; we have private rooms as well as sibling/family rooms to give each patient the individualized care they deserve in a safe and loving environment.
THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY
From 3D imaging to the iTero element 5D scanner to the newest 3D printer , we only use the latest and greatest! At Ricci Orthodontic Studio, we believe in providing the highest level of care, far exceeding the “standard”, because that is what you deserve. We don’t believe in cutting costs in a way that compromise your quality of treatment. Because again, would we truly be treating you as family if we did?
COMPLIMENTARY STUDIO PHOTO SESSION
As a patient, you will receive a complimentary studio photo session at the end of your orthodontic treatment, leaving you with the perfect headshot for your college application, job application, or even just your social media profile picture. We believe your studio-worthy smile will give you the confidence you need to advance in every area of your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmmmm let’s see. We’ll let’s pretend I had the whole week off and that we have endless funds and only have the kids after school lol. We would probably start here in Doral. Go to church on Sunday and then go to Casa Mariano for brunch. Then we would go to Doral Central Park and hang out. At night my husband would cook an amazing Italian dish that we would enjoy with some red wine. The next day we would go to Key Biscayne and eat at this Spanish restaurant on the beach called Open Seas Paellas Españolas. We’d spend the day at the beach and then on the way home stop at Mister 01 for dinner (love their pizza!). Tuesday we would head to Pura Vida for breakfast and then walk around, show them the office, hang out with the kids at the Downtown Doral Park. Then go to Barbakoa for dinner and have churros after from Santa Dulce. Wednesday we would change it up and go to Coral Gables. Eat brunch at Bachour and then maybe do some shopping. For dinner we would head back to Doral and check out Shoma Bazaar- my favorite indoor food hall here in Doral. Thursday, we’d go get our nails done at Tips and Dips and then walk around City Place and check out my favorite boutique, Garrote, and then have lunch at Novecento. We’d then go back to my house to get ready to pack up for Friday… where we would obviously head to Disney world for a long weekend. We’d stay at the Riveriera and do a character breakfast at Topilino’s. We’d definitely go to Magic Kingdom and Epcot (at least) and then do dinner at Summer House in Disney Spring one night as well when we go hit up Zara. The Disney Springs Zara is my favorite. Once we get back to Miami we would do are final dinner at Carbone- the best Italian restaurant (again remember in this dream we have unlimited funds lol). Okay I will wake up from this dream now….
Honestly there is soooooo much to do in South Florida I can make 293480923 different itineraries.
