We had the good fortune of connecting with Anitria Sangster and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anitria, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he” Proverbs 23:7. I value the mindset an individual. 95% of our brain activity happens in our subconscious mind which leaves 5% for our conscious mind. Our conscious mind is currently aware of what is going on right now. Our subconscious is where our dreams and imaginations go on, when we sit and make up those scenarios in our head, where we keep our fears and failures, our memories, hopes and dreams. If we are not careful of what we think, we could manifest those made up scenarios and fears in real life. We , the people don’t know how strong our own minds are. Now just imagine, if you were to think positive of yourself and your surroundings, make up positive scenarios instead and also watch what you put in yourself on the daily informational wise, I am 100% sure we would be more successful. The heart motivates the mind, “As a man THINKETH in his HEART so is HE”. When you have an idea, a dream, a passion, that you want to get out, it manifest in the heart. The idea goes through your mind but if your heart is not in it you won’t be motivated to execute. Maybe I value how much heart someone has for something they claim is their passion. the mindset does help with execution of whatever you desire. You can make something so beautiful if you guard your heart and discipline your mindsets. Heart motivations and healthy mindsets is what matters to me the most.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a personal trainer for TakeOffFitness/TakeOffFit which is my business. I help my clients gain or lose weight if that is what they desire. I have been training and doing track & field actually since the age of four but I tell people since that age of six because I remember more at that age. I got trained by some of the best speed coaches in South Florida over my high school career and I went on to run at a collegiate level. I also trained myself on the side after deciding that I did not want to continue track & field. In all those years of training I learned the basics of shedding weight off of heavy athletes which is called condition, I also know what it takes to build muscle onto an athlete looking for more power. I transfer the information over to my clients. First, when a client comes to their first session I evaluate them basically by seeing how far they can push themselves, which exercises they struggle with and how long they could go during a typical workout. I never put my clients in the fire of my personal training head first, I would rather they go in big toe first. Once I evaluate them I can go forth with their workout plans on the days they come after. I also do customized workouts for those who are too busy or maybe to far away for me so that they could get their sweat on as well. I am also working on doing a “Saturday Sweat” group session which will be very fun in the future. What sets me apart from others is that I put my heart into my clients workout, I put together each and every workout for all of my clients by myself, I push them through each set and when I know they feel the burn I am right there with them doing the exercise to help them through. I genuinely want to help them be the best person they can be and when I see that potential I let them know even when they don’t see it themselves. I am proud of my weight lose clients, I get to see their whole transformation process. I see the little loses when they don’t and I bring those moments to them to encourage them to keep going. I am real and very upfront with them , I let them know that it will take time like any other natural thing but I also let them know I will be there with them through everything. I must be honest and say that it wasn’t at all easy to get to where I am today. I had to go through trials, nights of crying, injuries, not feeling like enough, late night practicing, extra sessions after practice to get to where I needed to be. It was all worth it and I would do it again if I had to, no hesitation. It took a great deal of discipline to keep my head straight and to stay focus on my training. A great lesson I learned was not to be too hard on myself. When I didn’t execute a race like I wanted to I would tend to blame myself and just sulk in my mistakes but some great teachers I had would reassure me that I actually had more positives in the race than negatives. I also learned to “run my race” basically meaning be you, replicate what you did in practice and never try to run someone else race. One more great lesson I learned was to finish the race no matter what. I never was a quitter no matter what position I was in, you finish the race because anything could happen during the race causing you to be in a better position. TakeOffFit is me, my whole life has revolved around that phrase, “Take Off”. If you are from South Florida you already know the meaning and feeling behind the phrase. What does NASA say when a rocket is going into space? What does a wide receiver do when he catches the football? What does a baseball player do when he or she hit that home run? What does a relay runner do when they receive that baton…TAKE OFF! With all your power lift them knees up as high as you can, swing them arms back and TAKE.OFF.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was visiting my area I would take them to Flamingo Gardens, Discovery Museum, Xtreme Action Park, and maybe a picnic/paint date. For eateries I would take them to Vegan On The Go, the food there is a 15/10 if I’m being honest. If we were to get fancy, we would go to Shooters Water Front or Trulucks. We could hang out in Wydwood to catch a vibe and to see some great art, Speak EZ in Miami, or to my brothers R&B Wednesday’s in Fort Lauderdale which is always a nice vibe. To top off the trip we would go to a nice cardio dance class because those are always fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost , I want to give a huge shout out to God, God has been walking with me through everything. I give God the most thanks because majority of my ideas come from God, God is the source. I am blessed to be able to continue my passion that helps other individuals that want the help. I want to shout out my immediate family for being very supportive of me and my passion. My close friends, which I have very few so they know who they are, these individuals pushed me to stay in my passion. I want to shout out myself for never giving up. Whenever someone tried to shoot my idea down or talk down on my passion I didn’t let those words be the demise of what I had going on. God blessed me with these gifts, these ideas, it would be foolish of me to stop when I know stopping is not in the plan God has for me . It is only the beginning for me, I shout God out most because I know God has more for me to execute.
