We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Gallo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the key success factors of our business Sardinia Ristorante has been due to consistency. Consistency in the preparation of our dishes, on the use of fresh ingredients. Also our consistency in service to our customers. We have been blessed to have staff working at Sardinia for almost as long as we have been open.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was born in Torino, Italy and came to the states as a teenager to work, it was 1990. I learned to speak English, first in Miami working as a busboy at Tiberio Restaurant in the Bal Harbour Shops, one of the top restaurants in the city back then and then in New York City, while working as a bus boy, food runner, and waiter at Mezzogiorno. By the mid 90’s my brother opened a restaurant called Cafe Torino in Manhattan and I ran it a s a manager. That open new ventures for me in other cities like London, Torino and finally back to Miami where I became part of the Managing team of Ago, Robert Deniro’s restaurant at The Shore Club back in 2003. From there I had already met my partner Pietro and we decided to create Sardinia Enoteca Ristorante in 2006. As with every new business venture, difficulties came up but determination and vision kept me moving forward, and here I am today. A big lesson I have learned? Never give up on what you truly desire, be determined to pursue it, to learn more from it and to embrace the downfalls as stepping stones for success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Beside taking my friend for delicious food and wine at Sardinia, we will probably wine and dine at Zuma, which to me is one of the best places to eat. Wynwood is always a great place to visit for the Street art and South Beach for the Art Deco architecture, a day at sea is a must when visiting Miami, so going out on a boat is a must. I also love to go out at night and Casa Tua members Club is always a must. The Living Room at Faena and Socialista on Brickell are also favorites. And of course coming to Miami and not enjoying the beach can’t happen so we will probably spend time on the beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
the entire team at Sardinia Ristorante is dedicated and deserves this shout out. Another shout out goes to our loyal customers who have been coming to the restaurant and making it a favorite since 2006. Without them we wouldn’t be here.
