We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Garrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asia, how do you think about risk?
When I think about taking a risk, I think about stepping out on faith! I believe that in order to truly grow in any area of your life you have to be willing to step out on faith and trust that even if you miss you’re still going to be alright. Change your view of failure! Sometimes you have to fail so others who are around you won’t.

I moved from St. Louis, MO to Washington, DC July 2020. Based off of faith and what I know God was calling me to do. This was a risk because I came here with a vision but no resources. Since taking a leap of faith and trusting God I have transitioned over to full time entrepreneurship and I’m constantly reminded that we will miss every shot that we don’t take.

Alright, so let’s talk about entrepreneurship. What’s your daily motivation and advice to anyone looking to start a business? 
When I look back over the years I’ve gotten to where I’m at by trusting the process and doing the unusual. I learned at a very early age that I was not created to fit in and what I was called to do would require sacrifice, hard work, and it would not happen over night!

It’s NOT easy! I wake up some days like “How the heck am I going to accomplish this?” Then I remember, one thing at a time one day at a time.

I love entrepreneurship! I’m a 4th generation entrepreneur and I take pride in coming from a family that values Black business. The sacrifices they have made and the lessons they have taught me help me in running my own business.

My advice to anyone wanting to start a business.
What’s your why? Why do you want to start a business?

Your WHY has to be larger than you and it can’t just be about you. Once you figure that out then you begin to brain storm.

Always remember if you can find out the need of others you can create a product/service for that need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I live in the DMV and I’m still partially new to the area!

But I’m taking my bestie to all the monuments and museums! Especially, the African American Museum that has to be the first stop!

I love to go to happy hour at the Hamilton for Sushi! I enjoy going to local mom and pop restaurants as well.

DC is full of things and I’m sure when my bestie is here we would be very spontaneous!

All glory to God! It’s always an honor to be trusted and used by him. I’m grateful for my family, friends, mentors, and the women who are apart of Girls Room Ministry! I’m even grateful for the random airport conversations LOL! The people who I don’t know personally but have shared wisdom with me in passing. I appreciate it.
