We had the good fortune of connecting with Benoit Izard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Benoit, what role has risk played in your life or career?
i don’t think about risks. i simply do what i want to do, or i try to what i want. in the same way that i don’t think about what is more secure. it would feel strange to think risks regard to art creation, it is in opposition, art is about being free, it is not about the excitement or the fear of risk. that said, i made choices without knowing were i was going, and that was often my best choices. like when, at the end of my architecture studies in lyon, i went to do an audition at the dance academy in amsterdam without nearly having dance before, i just wanted to be a dancer, there was no other thoughts, i guess i was so clear in my mind, that they took me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
my art is about raising vibrations, or activating this innate vibration in people. i work with many mediums, i’m a dancer, performer, photographer, sculptor, installation artist, i do slam poetry, textile art. all my pieces have in common to create festive freedom. is it easy to sell ? no. galleries are mainly looking for immediate gratification, you’ll see again the same marilyn pop art or famous names, and non profit organizations are mainly looking for art that is a statement about art, in both case it creates what is already known ; and if you talk to the beauty, the surprise, the joy, the freedom, the presence in people, you create the unknow, and that is a challenge to bring out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
in miami ? i live on south beach, i’m very much at the beach club at 1 hotel, i do walking mediations on the beach at sunset, i’m clearly more about quality places than show off places, good organic food of any style, faena is beautiful especially during art basel, i would show wynwood, pamm, the everglades national park after a stop at robert is here for a key lime shake, design district, la palapa at upper buena vista, and cook for them at home

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
nobody especially. but i could say something about recognizing others as my mum left this life 2 weeks ago, if i have one regret is not to have aknowledged her in her perfection earlier instead of holding grief. we lose so much time in lower feelings while we could enjoy what is offered
