We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Bouchillon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brad, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Although it is not a full-on business, the thought process behind Project Litterbug was to challenge myself in tying flies, while simultaneously spreading the message to keep our waterways clean.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Project Litterbug is a fun and imaginative way to turn the hobby of fly tying and the concept of eliminating water pollution into an artistic output. This is done by individuals cleaning up trash around beaches, rivers, ponds, etc. and turning the litter into fishing flies. Most litter cannot be used which is ultimately discarded appropriately, but the pieces that can be used are incorporated into a fly as a means of spreading awareness to others that we should keep our waters clean. Even if you do not tie flies or go fishing, the purpose of Project Litterbug is to express the importance of cleaning up after ourselves. It’s very easy to do and every little bit of trash cleaned up matters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my opinion, I would take my friends to a beach early in the morning to avoid the crowds. By lunch time we would clean up and go eat some seafood on the beach. After lunch, go home and shower and just chill at the pool until dinner time when we would go back out. For lunch we’d probably go to Lucky Fish in Pompano Beach. For dinner we would probably go to Boathouse.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my wife whose on creativity and drive inspired me to start Project Litterbug. She has helped motivate me and assist me in promoting it and developing content for the Instagram page.
