We had the good fortune of connecting with Bri Brancato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bri, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
When I was 19, I was juggling classes at a community college, a job at a gym, and an internship at the Sony Music building on Wilshire and Santa Monica, working in one of the record labels’ A&R departments. Nothing felt aligned, so I had a meltdown, naturally. My mom suggested I talk to a life coach. The coach recognized my strengths as an artist and said I would have a prosperous career working in hair and makeup. The rest is history.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love that there’s no texture or client I can’t work on. Due to my extensive training under various artists, I’ve managed to combine the best of their techniques and create a unique style that’s truly my own. Exposure to other artist is crucial. I’ve even trained under Japanese artists, their techniques, tools, and products are vastly different.

However, my journey to success has been shaped by my professionalism, my ability to connect with clients, and my knack for reading the room. It wasn’t an easy path. I began at a young age so I face terrible burnout and major trial and error.

I only started to overcome a lot of the challenges I was facing in the industry when COVID hit. Everything changed for me. I suddenly had nothing, no salon, no set to report to, and I had to build from scratch after 8 years. My biggest lesson was separating myself from my work; that’s hard to do as an artist because you really do pour yourself into every look you create. Also, working in entertainment, saying no does not feel like an option because you’re so easily replaced. Now I know my boundaries and prefer to keep a healthy work-life balance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start the week off by booking massages for us at the Standard Hotel, then laying out by the pool and enjoying everything that property has to offer.
I would take her to my favorite workout spots – a personal training session with Valerie at DBC, a Reforming class with Alexa Katz in South Beach, and a wild Ahana yoga class with Aubrey.
I would have to book a Sound Healing journey with Michelle Berlin. It’s a really beautiful spiritual experience.
We would also enjoy a simple bike ride over the Venetian Causeway from Suite Habana Cafe to Sun Life for the best $20 smoothies and views.
Casa Noes is my favorite place to dance; it has amazing DJs for a magical sunset party and brunch vibe.
LPM for dinner on Sunday night to cap the week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, I genuinely appreciate my parents for supporting me in pursuing a career in an industry they knew nothing about. There was no way of knowing whether I would achieve this level of success or not. I started at 19 years old with no direction.

In Los Angeles, assisting is crucial for building a successful career in the hair. I’ve had the privilege of having dedicated mentors and learning from incredibly talented artists. Two individuals who have had the most profound impact on my career are Mary Curran and Matthew Preece. Mary, whom I affectionately refer to as my “Work Mom,” has taken me on sets all over the world, trusted me with her legendary clientele, showed me the art of working on high-budget music videos, fashion campaigns, commercials, and television productions. Matthew taught me how to optimize my work in salon and gave me one of my favorite opportunities —working in product development at a mansion in Beverly Hills
