Meet C. Prescott | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with C. Prescott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C., the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
After 20yrs working for company, I was eventually let go…Omg! a mid-life crisis! No! I took it as an oppurtunity to grab hold of my life and follow my passion, art!
How was I going to do this? I had no clue how, when or where. After being laid off I took a year off and went back to the Arts Students League of New York full time and put on a my first one man show. I did the one man show and the next day decided I was packing up my belongings leaving NY and heading to S. Florida where I would be able to pursue a career in art full-time.
I sold my apartment, packed up my belongings and with my dog Izzy we drove to Florida where I only knew two people, but the weather and being 20 minutes from the beach what else could I ask for.
A fresh start following a life long passion and turning it into a profitable business is the best decision I’ve ever made.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked a majority of my life in business following the dollar, paying the bills, the benefits, the insurance and 401k’s…..afraid to take the leap of faith and do what truly makes me happy. It’s hard for an artist to take that plunge of working full time as an artist with no benefits and no guarantee of financial stability.
I’ve always had a mission, a drive for life…..but first I needed stability. I am someone who always thinks of the future and what I need and will I be ok. I am a humble modest person that doesn’t need anything more then to be able to pursue what I am most passionate about and a small circle of friends.
Once I took the leap of faith back in NY that one day after my one man show and moved to S. Florida, I never looked back. I jumped right in with both feet As an introvert it is very daunting to have to put yourself out there to network ,going to openings, lectures and any other social event trying to build your brand and have people see your work. The thing is once you find something that you love and believe in, it just becomes your way of life to the point people now see me as somewhat as an extrovert…
You need to love, believe and have a passion for what you do, and once you do that others will believe in what you’re doing!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends come to town, which is often, the itinerary is usually always the same:
It’s all about art, good food and the ocean.
I love S.Florida and its diversity in art and food. The Wynwood Arts District is a must and maybe a trip to one of the local museums. South Florida has quite an array of incredible restaurants, depending on what we’re looking for…sometimes it’s just about a great view and a cocktail.
I also love to check out local the art exhibits. I am a big believer in supporting local artist.
and my guest will not leave South Florida without at least sticking their toe into the ocean.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The quote “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose in life is to give it away.” by Pablo Picasso
It is so true we are all born with a gift, the trouble most of us have is finding that gift/purpose! Once found… you’ll find yourself growing, creating in ways you never imagined possible and once found, you’ll be able to give/share that gift in ways you never imagined possible.
Also most important is to surround yourself with a loving supportive group of friends and family that support the choices you make in life. I am blessed!
