Meet Camille von Simson | Graphic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camille von Simson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camille, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Determining whether to persist or surrender in a pursuit is a deeply personal and evolving decision. This question strikes a chord with me as it encapsulates my journey as a graphic designer.
For the majority of my career as a graphic designer, the concept of giving up never entered my mind. I successfully managed my passion for design alongside the demands of school and side jobs. However, when I contemplated transitioning into full-time freelance design, I confronted a significant crossroads. Doubts crept in, accompanied by the feeling of imposter syndrome. I questioned my readiness and experience for this new path. At that point, I considered giving up on my freelancing aspirations, considering alternatives such as joining an agency or a corporate design team.
I did, in fact, pursue this alternative path for several years. To my surprise, it left me less fulfilled and creatively stifled. I found myself yearning for the days when I had complete creative autonomy, the freedom to shape brands from scratch, and chart my course. It was during this time that I realized the significance of not viewing this as “giving up” but rather as exploring different facets of my career.
It was through these detours that I ultimately discovered my true calling as a freelance graphic designer. This journey taught me that perseverance is essential, but so is the wisdom to adapt and embrace change when necessary. It reinforced my belief that sometimes, the path to success is not a straight line, but a series of explorations that lead to self-discovery and growth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the key aspects that distinguishes me is my meticulous attention to detail and my thoughtful approach to every new project. When I take on a project, I immerse myself completely in the brand’s world. Before diving in, I conduct extensive research to ensure that my design not only looks great but also aligns perfectly with the brand’s identity and objectives.
What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of clients. Each client brings their unique perspective and vision to the table, and I find that incredibly inspiring. Listening to their thoughts and ideas is an integral part of my design process. They play a pivotal role in shaping my work and pushing me to explore new creative horizons.
I owe much of my professional journey to the incredible clients I’ve had the privilege of working with. Their support and the word-of-mouth recommendations they’ve provided have been instrumental in my success as a freelancer. I believe that strong client relationships and the ability to bring their visions to life have been central to my growth.
Now, was my journey easy? Not really. Like any creative field, the path to success as a graphic designer has its challenges. However, it’s these challenges that have made me stronger and more resilient. The key lesson I’ve learned along the way is the importance of adaptability. The design world is constantly evolving, and the ability to embrace change and stay updated with industry trends is essential. It’s also crucial to maintain open lines of communication with clients, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met.
Ultimately, I want the world to know that my brand is built on a foundation of creativity, dedication, and a genuine passion for design. I’m committed to delivering not just visually stunning work, but designs that truly connect with audiences and reflect the essence of the brands I collaborate with.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were to visit Miami, I’d gladly take on the role of tour guide, a task I often enjoy among my friends. Miami is a city known for its constant evolution, continually offering newness in cuisine, shopping, and more. During our visit, I’d ensure we experience the city’s latest and greatest attractions.
Our adventure would start with a serene morning at Fincas in Upper Buena Vista for coffee, followed by a delicious Turkish breakfast at El Turco. For lunch, we’d continue our Mediterranean-themed journey with a visit to Mr. Mandolin in North Miami, with a bonus tour of the iconic Art Deco motels along Biscayne Boulevard. Our dessert stop would be Peel Soft Serve’s new location in Miami Shores, a true must-try. To wrap up the day, we’d head to Coconut Grove for dinner at Krus Kitchen, followed by a leisurely walk to explore the area.
Some other culinary favorites include Matty’s, Luna Pasta e Dolci, Tam Tam, and Itamae. As for intriguing places to visit, we’d explore the Rubell, Perez Art Museum, or Nina Johnson, who always have unique exhibits. For a relaxed evening, a stroll through the Design District, blending shopping and art, would be on the agenda. When we get hungry, we’d make our way to Bocadoro at the MIA Market. They have mouthwatering sandwiches and Spanish food (you’ll thank me later!).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely, I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. She has been an incredible source of inspiration and support throughout my life. My mom is a psychologist, but she’s also the most creative person I’ve ever known. She’s a true multi-tasker who has always gone the extra mile to support our family.
During summers, she used to organize arts and crafts camps for the children in our community, igniting their creative spirits. Even in her professional life, she found ways to incorporate art into her work, designing artistic activities for her patients to help them express themselves.
Above all, my mom has been a constant source of encouragement for me. She was the one who put a paintbrush in my hand and encouraged me to explore my artistic talents. It’s safe to say that my passion for art and design was nurtured by her from the very beginning.
So, my shoutout goes to my incredible mom, who not only balanced multiple roles but also planted the seeds of creativity in me, setting me on the path to where I am today. Her unwavering support and belief in my abilities have been instrumental in my journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.
