We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Maritato and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks it can be really scary! Staying at a job I hate for forever and being too afraid to make moves is even scarier to me. The way I think of it is if I am going to spend my time and energy for someone else’s business/dream.. why don’t I put that energy into myself and build my own life doing what I love? Quitting the “stable” job I was at for eight years to pursue touring music and teaching yoga has brought me more growth in one year than the eight I worked at a chain restaurant where no one gave a fuck about me. I was stagnant, miserable and always wondering “when is my dream was going to take off?” At a certain point I just couldn’t let my life pass by hating every day. Where you put your attention is what grows. One day I won’t be on this earth and I want to make the most of the time I have. That means facing rejection from showcases, playing music anywhere I can (even if it’s a parking lot), being vulnerable by sharing my most intimate moments through music and so much more. I would never trade my experience in pursing this music career for anything in the world and that is a risk I am willing to take.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Even when I want to give up I keep on going. Music is the one thing in my life that I have continued to pursue against all odds. Writing music is nonnegotiable. It is something I will do for the rest of my life even if I make no money doing so. My favorite thing about Woolbright is the band itself. I play music with my favorite artists and best friends and I genuinely mean that. How do you get professional? HARD WORK and practice! Also taking time to breath and take a break when you need it. All I want to share is STAY HYDRATED and follow what you love and rest will follow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best time ever? My house! Hahaha. I can make you a delicious meal and cocktail. BUUUUT if we are leaving the house we are hitting up the beach, tree tops park, Parlour vegan bakery AND Tree Lion in Hollywood! Oh and if Angel Zweig is behind a bar you better go visit her because she makes the BEST drinks in town. Did I mention she also has a pop up taco shop called “Taco Taxi” where she makes BOMB tacos, smoked corn and churros!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for John Peloso. He has encouraged me to always move forward. When I didn’t believe in myself and almost quit my passions to keep being a waitress because it was “practical” he always reminded me of my worth. He reminded me that I have a choice and do not have to stay anywhere I don’t want to be. Kris Maseri has believe in me from the moment he saw my band Woolbright play a barn in Davie. He is the band dad everyone wishes they have and is the ultimate optimist- 11/11, baby! Josue Vargas is my musical inspiration and is always gassing me UP. Christina Healey has always been supportive of every musical project I’ve been in. Her resilience and passion for her own projects inspires me to keep going. Steve O’Ren is always coming in CLUTCH with amazing photos and video work for us and has amazing vision. Anthony Grasso has done pretty much all of our merch designs and our album artwork. He is an INCREDIBLE artist and I am so thankful for him! Last but not least, thank you to Chris Palowitch for being one of the most helpful and knowledge dudes I know in the music industry. He recorded our first album “Busybody Lazybones” and I would not trade that experience for the world.
