We had the good fortune of connecting with Carli Brinkman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carli, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I embrace risk. I think risk-taking is an important aspect of living a life that excites, motivates, and inspires you. I try to look at life one step at a time and do what feels right in the moment, because it is impossible to be able to see into the future or navigate your entire life with each decision, and I think that this allows me to take more risks. I know I don’t have to have it all figured out, but I know I need to follow my heart and my gut in the moment, then go from there. Sometimes that means doing things that are out of my comfort zone or come with unpredictability, but experience has shown me that it is always worth it. I’ve lived an exciting, passion-filled life because of it, both professionally and personally.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a public relations consultant and strategist, meaning I work with my clients to devise a plan to communicate who they are to their audience and public at large, primarily through media storytelling. But also by working with them to create campaigns, programs, events, and collaborations that align with their vision, brand and ethos that help them tell their story and provide them the opportunity to generate positive exposure and overall awareness. I am the owner and founder of Carli Brinkman PR, and I am very proud to have built a reputation as a trusted communications professional who works hard for her clients and uses well-devised strategic planning to yield results. Earned media is tricky. You cannot simply tell the news media that you are newsworthy. You must be newsworthy. And if you are not, you must figure out how to authentically insert yourself into the conversation that is the current news cycle. To do that requires strategic thinking, and that is where I come in. I am also a co-founder of a communications agency, One World Associates, where my two partners and I go beyond communications to bring together a unique offering of skill sets to take the visions from ideation to execution. Providing everything from creative and vision development to crisis management and media relations, our team at One World will take a mission and make it a movement that creates real change. I could not be more excited about what our team is building and our vision for the impact our work will have in its ability to create social change. In building these companies, I have learned quite a bit about risk and intuition, among other things. Trusting yourself and your ability to succeed is so key. Remember your accomplishments, honor your true self, trust your talents, and have confidence in your ability to succeed against all odds. Respecting, loving and believing in yourself are so critical to building a foundation for success.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooooh where to begin! I quite literally once ran the PR and Communications for Palm Beach County’s destination marketing organization, so I am pretty well-versed in elaborating on what is amazing about this area. For me, what is most incredible about South Florida is it’s natural environment. So the perfect day would be starting off with breakfast at Green’s Luncheonette, which is located on Palm Beach near the beach within an old-school pharmacy. After breakfast, we head to John D. MacArthur Park, where we take a kayak out on brackish waters, from Intracoastal to ocean, and dock at small unoccupied islands along the way. After a long, lovely day on the water, we unwind and celebrate the day with a delicious dinner on a peaceful lake on the deck of The Catch, a Peruvian-inspired seafood restaurant in North Palm Beach. After dinner, we relax at home with a glass of wine, enjoying the cool breeze in our lanai under bistro lights, in the lush tropical landscaping of our quintessential Florida backyard. We live in paradise, and we embrace it every day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to my children- my daughters Lillian and Harper. They are at the core of everything in my life. They are my heart, soul and joy and they inspire everything I do. My children have also taught me so much about life- they wake up eager for the day, with huge smiles and a sense of wonderment, and with confidence that the day will bring them
joy, excitement, laughter and happiness. Everything fascinates them- they love to learn. And their mission in life is to have as much fun and to laugh as much as humanly possible. It’s incredible to witness their capacity to love, tolerate, and be kind. I wish I could be more like my girls. I am so grateful that they chose me and for the opportunity to call them mine.
