We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly LaFlamme and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started Carly Rose Designs, I tried go into it with an open mind and no expectations. Painting and creating art was something I enjoyed and that I wanted to share with people, but I didn’t want turning it into a business to take away from the joy it brought me. I made a promise to myself to only create things that I found excitement and enjoyment in, because if there is none of that joy and excitement in me while creating a piece, it definitely won’t bring it any joy and excitement to the viewer!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As I previously mentioned, I try to only create what brings out joy in me so that that joy carries to the viewer of my pieces. I love creating paintings based on my real life experiences or places/items that mean a lot to me. I also take custom art orders from customers, and hearing what they want me to create for them and hearing their excitement to see it come to life on my canvas is always one of my favorite parts of the process. With any art form, it’s always a vulnerable thing to put your work out into the world for everyone to see. I would say that that was definitely my biggest challenge in starting out. Since then, I’ve come to realize that everyone may not like my art and that’s okay, but if it resonates with even just one person than I’ve fulfilled my purpose.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone were to come visit local area of Palm Beach/Jupiter, I would say my go-to spots are the beach and spending time at Jupiter Beach Resort, trivia night at Paddy Macs Pub, and the rooftop bar and restaurant at Restoration Hardware. Throughout Florida, Disney is an absolute favorite of mine and a classic fun time that never gets old. And for the art scene, Wynwood art district in Miami and the Pérez art museum are amazing!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would never have gotten to where I am in my business without my family and friends supporting and pushing me to keep going to achieve this dream! Before I even had a thought about creating a way to sell and share my art, my friends and family would constantly tell me that I needed to put my stuff out there. They would share it on social media and tell their friends and family, which got me some of my first customers before even opening my shop. Without the constant encouragement from everyone in my life, I don’t think I ever would have gotten to the point of doing anything with my art, so I am forever grateful to them!
