Meet Carrie Best-Lary | Lifestyle Nutrition Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Best-Lary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Having lost my mother at 52 to brain cancer, my ultimate goal is to help as many young adults, men and women create the healthiest lifestyle possible by being accountable for their behaviors in regards to their nutrition, exercise/movement, spiritually and work/life balance.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the founder and entrepreneur of CBL Wellness LLC, a lifestyle and nutrition coaching company. After working the corporate world my entire career, I felt like something was missing and after digging deep determined that who I was as a 13 year old girl, was who I needed to get back in-touch with. I aspired to be a therapist from 13 on and then life took over, graduated from UF, moved from Florida to NYC, started my career and was hit with tragedy soon thereafter. That tragedy derailed me from pursuing my dream, so 20 something years later I decided to make a change! It was clear that my passion of helping others was my calling in life, so I resigned from the corporate world, got my certification in nutrition coaching and spent the last 3 years building a lifestyle nutrition coaching business. What sets me apart from other nutrition coaches, is that I teach my clients how to make behavioral shifts instead of spoon feed them meal plans or macro goals. I am so proud that when a client completes their personalized program with me, that they have experimented with various tools and circumstances, and can maintain their progress on their own! Building a business at 45 years old from scratch, in today’s world is no small feat and I’m humbled by the growth I’ve experienced both professionally and personally from stepping into change. One of the most important lesson I’ve learned is that we all have our own strengths and areas of opportunity – we should never NOT do something in life because we think there are people out there that are better than us, more skilled than us. We all start somewhere and having an “In it to win it” attitude is what creates momentum, self-confidence and the drive to keep going – even during times of adversity or challenge. I want others to know that being able to practice this line of work is my life’s mission. Coach Carrie Best is all about helping people EARN their health and happiness. The best change happens when it’s Your Best Change, not what your family, friends or colleagues want for you to change. Had my mother advocated for her health 25+years ago, she may still be here today. The first step in being accountable to oneself, is to be open and vulnerable to change.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best time ever would entail staying at a hotel on Brickell or by South Pointe Park in Miami. We would wake up daily to a long walk/run on the beach, a brunch on the water, afternoon in the sun and an early dinner over looking the beautiful water. Im a foodie, so it’s all about the restaurant selections, driving to different locations in the Miami area for all the cultural food and drinks!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, who passed in 1998 is my true inspiration in life. While she is not here in my present life, the time I did have with her made a lasting imprint on my adult path (I was 23 when she passed). Once I was able to fully heal from her passing and raise my family, I was able to recognize how much of my mother was embedded in my personality, drive and passion to help and serve my community. So technically, her spirit, her work ethic and drive has lead to a behind the scenes encouragement to 1) coach individuals to dig deep and work through who they want to be in life 2) challenge clients to raise the bar for themselves 3) be an advocate for change for others with a slow and steady approach to improving health and wellness
That’s the big picture recognition.
