We had the good fortune of connecting with Chitra Prasad and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chitra, what should our readers know about your business?
I am co-founder and CEO of Health Conscious, a digital health education platform. We offer easy-to-follow courses to help people with chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, remove the lifestyle obstacles associated with their conditions and take practical steps to improve their body and mind. We officially launched our web and mobile app in March of this year! This venture is not something that I had ever planned, but rather a natural evolution. It’s always so interesting to look back at one’s life and see how all the pieces tie together, which at the time, do not seem to be shared with other aspects of life. In my case, I can think of so many experiences – my dad teaching me how to meditate as a teenager, changing my college major from Chemistry to English, the entirety of my early career spanning online marketing and communications, learning coding and web design for fun, getting married, starting a social entrepreneurial business for artists. Each one of these moments directly became an element that created Health Conscious. And Health Conscious itself is an evolution from the originally conceived concept. My husband, Vim, is a physician and health coach, and I’m a wellness/life coach. We blended our perspectives to create a multi-dimensional way to help people gain medical knowledge and self-awareness and understand the steps to implement that insight. The entire journey has been one pivot to the next to develop the most impactful, efficient, and equitable business model. Fast forward three years and we’ve developed an affordable and convenient way to reach people wherever they are in their health journey, and in the country. Approximately 6 in 10 Americans suffers from at least one chronic health condition, and it is estimated that over 80% of these are preventable. Our mission is simple – to empower people through education and help them prevent, improve, or reverse their conditions through natural lifestyle changes. We understand that high quality resources are not accessible to most people, so we implemented a Pay-What-You-Can model to take away the financial hindrance of health improvement. Our program was reviewed by over 150 physicians from various specialties, as well as preventive health researchers, wellness coaches, and nutritionists incorporating the findings of thousands of clinical studies. So, we’ve basically taken the information from medical authorities, such as the American Health Association and American Diabetes Association, and consolidated it to make it relevant for the majority of the population.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to all of the leaders of spirituality and philosophy of our time and the past whose teachings remind us that our purpose for living is to simply be the best version of ourselves.
