We had the good fortune of connecting with Cinnamon Key and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cinnamon, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
This may seem odd to some readers: one large factor behind my success is fear. Yes, I said fear. Odd, right?! See, Key 4 Enterprises (my parent company that oversees its subsidiaries Jamila Wellness LLC, Key 4 Greatness Foundation Inc., and Naturally Cinnamon LLC) is a vision given to me by God Himself. I am not only a mental health clinician and a licensed clinical social worker, I am also a Christian. One of our values is Service. I have a desire to serve on a community level, helping those that need to obtain and maintain mental health services, as well as grooming and mentoring future clinicians. I just wasn’t sure how I could go about it and add my Cinnamon touch to it. So I prayed and asked God to help me, to show me the way He would have me serve. Thus, Key 4 Enterprises and all its companies were born. Now it was time for me to go to work. However, I was afraid. To be honest, I still am! Often! I am afraid of disappointing God. There it is: the truth. I fear failing to serve, and letting Him down. But how can fear lead to success? I call it The Fear Phenomenon. Fear is both comfortable and uncomfortable, simultaneously. It is both immobilizing and motivating, simultaneously. It’s even both miserable and blissful, simultaneously! I allowed fear to push me. To propel me toward my goals and desires. To motivate me to success. And I’m looking forward to what’s ahead!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Key 4 Enterprises is the parent company that oversees its subsidiaries Jamila Wellness LLC, Naturally Cinnamon LLC, and Key 4 Greatness Foundation Inc., all companies that focus on the promotion of mental wellness. Jamila Wellness is a black-owned mental health private practice that provides the South Dade area and surrounding communities with access to therapy with a clinician of color. Naturally Cinnamon is where resilience resides. There, everyone will find books, courses, and The Resilience Society, including The Resilience Society Podcast. The Key 4 Greatness Foundation raises funds to help bridge the gaps that someone may experience with obtaining or maintaining mental health services. All of these companies work together. I am currently excited for all that Key 4 Enterprises has built and is continuing to build! It sure was difficult, though. The hardest part was learning while I was building. I was educated in mental health, not business. So I had to learn, while working my 9-5, I worked on learning from 5-9. 5am-9am and 5pm-9pm was dedicated to learning. That’s all I did for my first year of business (which was 2014): learn. I attended any and every webinar, conference call, and workshop that I could get to. I was often tired (to be honest, I still am lol). But I gladly went through it because I needed to get the word out. I needed people to know that, regardless of their circumstances and mindset, they are okay. We’re all okay. At times, it seems like nothing is okay, but it is. You are, I am. We are okay,
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It could be due to my bias of Homestead, but I LOVE Schnebly Winery! You could truly spend the entire day there! They have tours, tastings, and the tiki huts are beautiful. They also have a brewery on site for the beer drinkers, and their restaurant The Redlander. You could eat, drink, visit, and hang out! Send me an email if you’d like to visit! I’d be glad to accompany you!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to The Resilience Society! These ladies keep me going. www.TheResilienceSociety.com
