We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan D’Agostino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dan, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind Plan Architecture’s success is that while we are designing homes and buildings, we haven’t lost sight of the fact we are a customer service business. Our goal while designing is to entertain our clients with the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Running plan architecture and plan interiors is intense. I find that the design and construction industry is always changing with material availability and costs being the most erratic. The hardest, yet most rewarding part of my profession has very little to do with the work we create, but everything to do with helping our clients understand their needs. This is sometimes exhausting as you will go through several design revisions, but this is the process and we understand it takes great patience and persistence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am boring. As a small business owner with two children under ten, my most recent social experiences typically revolve around kids menus and being home by 8pm!

Living in northern New Jersey, just 40 minutes from Manhattan, this is actually an easy question to answer.

I’d start with a trip up to Crystal Springs in Hamburg, NJ. Get in a round of golf, perhaps a little time at the spa and grab a casual meal on the grounds. The next day, we’d make our way into the city making our stops at the best cultural institutions Manhattan has to offer – the Met, Guggenheim and MoMa are my favorites. Why not stop at central park and make it downtown to Eataly.

Few people know this about me, but I am part owner of a restaurant call Ah Pizz in Wayne, NJ. We’d go there for an evening where we’d cook together and enjoy our Neopolitan Pizza out of the wood-fired oven.

For the remainder of the stay, we’d head down to Long Beach Island and enjoy the “real” Jersey Shore. Some of our local favorites in LBI are Stefano’s, Parker’s Garage, Station 117 and Bird and Betty’s. And, of course, making sure we get some WaWa coffee and a TAYLOR HAM, egg and cheese sandwich!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife! We started dating while I was studying architecture in college. From the day we met, she’s been a constant supportive force and always eager to help me as best as she can. It’s not easy being a business owner, it often takes time away from your personal life. She’s filled in every gap and been a partner in every sense of the word ever sense I met her.
