We had the good fortune of connecting with David Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi David, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose the artistic path for a career because it just comes so naturally to me a lot of people in my family are creative artist so I just fell in line using my own creative expressions through certain mediums. My great grandmother owned her own fashion house in Chicago that’s where the fashion aspect of me comes from. I grew up watching a lot of TV and movies and I have always been infatuated with the process of putting a production together all the way from casting photography video etc. From day one I have always wanted to be behind the scenes and in front of them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have many forms of art. First in for most I am a high in fashion designer I graduated with my bachelors in fashion design in 2016. From there I have gone on to become a notable fashion stylist creative director graphic designer and photographer. My Made medium is photography and what sets me apart from others is my experience in other fields of art and creativity.

For example, when booking me for issue, I don’t just show up as a photographer. I normally create a whole concept for the models which includes providing hair, make up, and styling as well if needed. I never just show up as a photographer when I see you, I always put together an entire production start to finish . I would say that is what makes me different from most photographers and what makes me stand out in the fashion industry my versatility. Now, this definitely wasn’t easy because I have had to acquire all of these skills over numerous amount of years and it takes a lot of research and a lot of practice to be able to execute each of them on a professional level. With that said I am still learning in each of these fields today. The story behind my brand is creativity. We are all about pushing people to their creative limits I’m bringing the best art out of the people that we work with. With that said SmithInc. is simply creativity at its finest.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I don’t necessarily go out anymore because I’m always so busy but for my friends that are coming out of town they would most likely come from Chicago so one of the first things that we would do is go to South Beach hang out there and then I would probably try to do something cool with them like rent out a boat for the day, Go paragliding and then most likely hang out in my favorite town Wynwood,eat some Coyo taco and go sightseeing

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give a lot of my credit to a couple of people that I look up to who have been through similar life altering situations like me and have made a great name for themselves such as Tyler perry,Charlemagne the God Michelle Obama and Jada Pinkett Smith. Whenever I need inspiration or I am in a tough place mentally artistically I always turn to one or all of these for people for great inspiration.
