We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Zuliani and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Brazil, but my life had a lot of moving around till I turned 18. My dad works in the hospitality business so I had the opportunity to live in 4 different states in Brazil, Cuba, Cayman Islands and South Florida all before my 18th birthday.

It sounds like an amazing experience, but for me as a kid it was tough. Leaving friends and family behind every few years and starting all over again somewhere else wasn’t easy.

But looking back at it now as an adult I can see how much it made more of an open minded person. Not only that but it made me mature a lot sooner. Understanding what it is like to arrive at a new place, with a new culture, new language.. it pushes you into socializing more, learning more and understanding that there’s no right answer. Every city, every state, every country has its own way of doing things, and they are all great in their own way!

You have to learn how to put it into perspective, and apply it to your life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was young I always wanted to be an architect. I was living in Brazil when I graduated high school, and decided to follow my dream of becoming one.

Unfortunately not long after I started taking my classes I quickly fell out of love with it. I don’t know if it was the way the course was laid out, the teachers, or me.. but I knew it just wasn’t for me.

I have a few family members that work with graphic/ industrial design, so I decided to go down that route. Not long after, I got an internship at a design/ photography studio, they offered me a position after a few weeks to get hired full time, but they needed an editor for all the photo campaigns and look books they were working on.

That was my first professional contact with photography.

A few years later, I decided to move back to Miami and become a full time photographer.

I enjoy photographing everything, but I have a passion for sports and music. The high energy, emotions, movement … I think those factors create amazing opportunities for us to capture images that will translate what was happening right then and there.

Since I lived a big part of my life in Brazil, having some of the opportunities I have today seemed completely out of reach. So even though I’ve been doing this for almost 4 years I get extremely excited for every project I get. And I always push myself to step up my own work from my last concert, soccer game, campaign or anything I’ve shot in the past.

I think keeping yourself busy and putting yourself into situations that you are not familiar with pushes you to learn new things, better understand your skills and what your camera is capable of doing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ahh man, that’s a question for my girlfriend lol, I don’t go out that much..

But I would for sure take them to Dante’s Hifi for some quality music and drinks.

Grab some burgers at USBS and pick up some film at one of the cool film shops in town.

Leave some room for random cool things that come up with the homies.

Chill at soho on the weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For sure my parents, for allowing me to view the world from multiple perspectives at a young age.

To all the homies and amazing creatives I’ve met a long the way that have made an effort to teach me, give me an opportunity and push me into getting better every day.

And my girl that has been with me from the start and has always supported and trusted my work.
