We had the good fortune of connecting with Danika Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danika, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
consistency was one of the vital habits that helped me with my work. I made sure photography was my first priority and to always make time for it before continuing with my other daily responsibilities. Another habit I have is to always have my camera on me where ever I am. a crucial habit I also try to maintain is constantly looking at other works from successful artists/photographers that inspire me to interpret new ideas in my projects.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photographs portray human intimacy within the comfort of people’s surroundings, representing a sense of acceptance through the eyes of one another. It is a familiar nostalgia between those who are close, and amid the presence of personal belongings, revealing the subjects’ authentic behavior in private spaces. I’m excited to continue with this series for the next couple of months, for it will be exhibited in the Miami Beach Urban Studios by the end of April 2021. There were a few times over the past few years where it wasn’t so easy. I’ve had moments where people doubted me, questioned my work, didn’t understand my photography, and really made me question “could I really turn what I love doing into my career?”. But then i realized how much I loved photography, it was all i wanted to do so I decided to look past the people that didn’t have faith in me, and surrounded my self with those who did believe in my work. I would not be where I am today without the support from my professors and fellow classmates. They have always pushed me to never give up on my work and to never let anyone bring me down. Along this continuous journey, I’ve learned – to constantly do what you love no matter what or how many trial’s you have to face. Always keep going and stay focused on what you want Take judgement lightly and let it challenge you to only get better in what you love doing. Accept, learn and grow from your mistakes I strongly believe there is no growth without trial and error.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite spots in Miami are – Coconut Grove, they have really nice restaurants and brunch areas that are fairly close to each other – walking distance – Key Biscayne Beaches, they’re quiet and secluded from most public beaches. – Miami Perez Art Museum – ARTECHOUSE | Miami – It is an Immersive installation/Innovative digital art space dedicated to 21st century artists and audience. – Lagniappe – one of my favorite lounge spots. It consists of wine, champagne, beer and custom meat/cheese platters with live jazz music. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this to my professor, William Maguire; an outstanding professor that has helped me grow and creatively expand on my work for the past four years. He has taught me to see the deeper meaning within the world of photography. He has always supported my work and believed that I can truly succeed as an artist.
