We had the good fortune of connecting with Carey Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carey, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
MMFITNESS is passionate about our clients living their best life in their best body. Getting fit and healthy is just the first step in a full life transformation. I, Carey Miller, am a certified personal trainer & special needs coach. My goal is to make my clients feel better about themselves in every area of their life. When people are in shape they look better, feel better, and make better choices. I believe health and fitness has an impact on my client’s personal relationships. When someone is taking care of themselves physically they develop discipline, they set goals, they start eating healthier, and they have more respect for themselves. When people have more respect for themselves they know what they deserve and will not tolerate anything less. This applies to their personal life & professional. This helps the community directly because we work with our clients to become physically & mentally heathy for the rest of their lives.
What should our readers know about your business?
If you would of told me five years ago that I would be training special needs clients, I wouldn’t believe you. Now its the best part of my job. I am a personal trainer, special needs coach, online coach, body builder, and most importantly a mom. I started out as a trainer working for a large corporate gym, and quickly realized it wasn’t for me. I was underpaid and overworked. The corporate gym charges the client $55.00 for a 25 minute session, but only pays the trainer $5.60. I lasted about 6 months there, and realized I could charge the same prices running a business on my own, and keep 100% of the profit. I opened up MMFITNESS 18 months ago. I love being my own boss. It was difficult to leave a steady but small paycheck and start off my own. I had all the odds stacked against me; single mom, recovering drug addict, and grieving the loss of my child’s father. I pushed through everyday and didn’t give myself the choice of failure. My son is now 2, and I am coming up on 3 years sober. I learned that in life the only limitations we have are the ones we place on ourselves. I made a lot of mistakes over the last 18 months, and I am still learning how to be the best version of myself for my son, and my business. My main mission as a trainer is to help people feel good about themselves. I love having such a rewarding job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am an introvert, so this is very unlikely to happen. This actually sounds like a nightmare LOL. I will say my best friend is my son. The perfect day with my son would be throwing on our swimsuits and going to the splash pad in town, having lunch at Giovannis Italian Restaurant, going to Altitude Trampoline Park, and then buying a new toy at Target. My son brings me more joy than any other person in the world.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate all of my success to my dad & son. My dad has always believed in me through the good & bad times. My son is my joy and my life. He gives me motivation when I feel like quitting.
