We had the good fortune of connecting with Dawn King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dawn, what matters most to you?
The principle of serving others matters most to me because it is at the foundation of what I know is my life’s purpose: to navigate the rough waters of grief and many forms of loss. I’ve served as a ministry leader, special education facilitator, K-12 teacher, college instructor, grief support group facilitator, real estate agent, and supplier diversity manager. In each role, my primary focus was to help others. The most memorable experiences consist of opportunities to serve people during some of their most difficult times.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My life experiences have prepared me to become the Journey Navigator. I help people navigate the waves of grief and many forms of loss. All my life, people have confided in me to seek advice during difficult trials. As a special education facilitator and former teacher, I helped parents accept the initial diagnosis of disabilities, the loss of what they dreamed about parenthood and the ultimate triumph in focusing on abilities and what their children could in fact learn to do. As a real estate agent, I served people from all walks of life who were forced to sell their homes due to the death of a spouse, illness, or the loss of a job. Beyond the sales transactions were conversations where I focused on listening to my clients so that I could provide hope. Life is truly a journey of straight paths, forks in the road, and at times going off-course. I consider myself a walking GPS if you will; the one to help people navigate through the dark times to believe and hope for new sunrises.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely head to the beach! The sounds of the waves and the wind blowing the leaves of palm trees rejuvenates me. I would recommend spending as much time at the ocean as possible. It’s where I do my most effective relaxing and meditating. It absolutely rejuvenates me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In addition to the phenomenal support and love of my husband, parents, daughter and friends, I’d like to dedicate my Shoutout to Leah M. Forney, Podcast Host of Hey Queen, Thrive for her mentorship and support and to Cheryl Williams, Senior Pastor of Wells of Salvation Christian Center for her loving encouragement, support, and decades of friendship.
