Meet Def Adept | Music producer, musician, healer, sonic shaman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Def Adept and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Def, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
If to give up is ever an option, you aren’t doing the right thing. Passion has no beginning and no end. There are times when the channel you’re traveling in may not be conducive to furthering your art. When this is the case its best to consult your sages and wise-people on how to get back on track.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I toured for years in punk bands playing drums. When i finally got off the road i was a bit done with the whole guitar rock and roll thing. A few of the festivals i played i saw cutting edge approaches to music. There were bands playing electronic live. no button pushing djs but actual live electronic instrument playing. I spent years acquiring and learning the technology to be able to do what it is i do: drum controlled electronic grooves. I write and play synth based experimental electronic that is triggered by me playing drum set. Although there are a few examples I’ve seen of this, no-one is doing it exactly as i do. One of the biggest challenges is the trail blaze such an approach to music. There is no-one i can go to for advice. It has been endless trial and error. It has also been supremely rewarding combining all my favorite things at once, drums synth and production.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Maybe not the answer you’re looking for but if he was here for a whole week and we didn’t have our kids id definitely go camping or outdoors somewhere. Coral castle is also a funky place id love to check out
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dan wanderer at audio playground entertainment has been a valuable ally in the war against mediocre music. My wife, Tracy, for always supporting me and loving the way i need
