We had the good fortune of connecting with Del Valeriay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Del, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
When I started this business, I knew that everything I did needed to be based around our customers. No matter how many years go by, we have the exact same standards and culture here at The Meating Place. Our customers are what has made us so successful for the past 50 years. We’re lucky enough to be serving some of our first customers’ grandkids now. It’s amazing how it all comes back that way. We’ve never invested in marketing since we’re such a word-of-mouth operation. When a customer has a great experience, they tell their friends. We treat everyone like our friends and family and get so much joy being able to be a part of their lives. We look forward to helping families celebrate special occasions and holidays for years to come.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Meating Place has been in business since 1969. We’ve been so lucky to call Boca home and have been in the exact same location since! I come from a big Italian family who loved food. Everything I know first began when I started working in my father and grandfather’s shop at the age of 12. Customers come to us for our prime meats but they become regulars because of our customer service. We do everything we can to help our customers. In terms of meats, we’re the place to come for the special occasion items like a Chateaubriand steak or an all-natural Lancaster turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. We’ve definitely had our fair share of challenges as a small business, COVID-10 being the most recent. We just had to take it one day at a time. We remained open and put all new practices in place to keep our customers safe. They knew they could rely on us, and we’re grateful to be through the worst of it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so thankful for my team. We have the best group of guys at The Meating Place and I couldn’t do it without them. They’re family to me and work tirelessly to serve our customers with the utmost respect and care.
