We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana GeRen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Photography has always been a passion of mine however, growing up, I was led to believe that this field had no opportunities for personal or financial growth. This is why I wound up in a professional career that offered “a future”; I became an Occupational Therapist. Here I quickly reached the top of the corporate ladder, and realized that something was missing. The repetitive work and the structured schedule bored me. I needed a career that matched my transformational, expansive nature. So one day I made the decision to start photography full time which added so much joy and fulfillment to my life. Today, after many years exploring, experimenting, and working with different genres, I’ve found my way to Boudoir and Beauty Photography. It has given me the opportunity to pursue my creativity and show my clients how incredibly beautiful they are.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my personality and the way I communicate with my clients. Most are very nervous about being in an intimate setting with little clothing, and a photographer they’ve just met, Many of my clients have expressed that despite the nerves, by the end of the shoot they feel as though they’re spending quality time with an old friend.
Getting to this point was not easy. Like with any other business there are ups and downs, however maintaining a positive mindset helps me a lot. If I concentrate on an issue for too long I will get stuck. Instead, I’ve learned to concentrate on solutions, refrain from overthinking and complaining, and set myself into action. Doing something is better than nothing. This helps me to manifest new and unique opportunities for myself!
What I want the world to know is that having a Boudoir photo session can be life changing. Men, women and couples get to experience and capture part of their own essence and beauty. This genre of photography is for any type of body shape. It helps women ages 40, 50, 60 and beyond to tap into their confidence, allows couples to capture their connection through photography, and helps men view themselves in a new light. At the end everyone gets to see how gorgeous and unique they are!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place that comes to my mind is to go to one of my favorite spots at the local beach to watch the sunrise and stay for the day to play in the tropical warm water. This is one of my favorite spots for photo sessions as well. Next I might take my friend to go to a beach front restaurant for lunch and end with a visit to the brewery District in my neighborhood. Then we could rent a fishing boat, go sailing or just hangout at the sand bar. Other attractions are mountain biking trails at our nearby parks, visiting the Palm Beach Zoo and beautiful museums, the fresh market, the wakeboard park, the turtle hospital, or the botanic garden. I’m Colombian so I get to mention one of my favorite Colombian restaurants, “El Atico.” I could go on and on talking about all the exciting places that we have around Boynton Beach, Florida.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is definitely the one who supports me the most in life. He believes in what I do and supports my ideas and goals without hesitation. In addition, I am inspired by the many incredible photographers who have inspired me and contributed to what I have become today.
