We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Farelo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diego, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reasons why I chose an artistic career were many, mainly because I really like the arts in general, music, painting, cinema and of course photography. When I finished my studies at College I had to decide what to study and this would define the rest of my life, I knew that what I wanted was art, however there are many stigmas that make the artist feel as if art was not considered to be a professional , but this filled me with more strength to fight against everything and show myself what I was capable of doing, so I began my studies as a photographer and cinematographer. Today I can say that I made the best decision, people pay me because I do what I love to do… photography. I have been around the world working and earning money through my passion, I have flexible hours, I know many places and people. Being a photographer was my best decision for my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
During the more than 10 years of my career as a photographer, I can say that I have lived the best experiences, I have traveled to take pictures in many countries, cities and remote locations that I never imagined I would get to know one day. Being an art professional is not easy, but fortunately it was easy for me, I studied with a lot of discipline, I make an effort every day to learn and improve my skills, perhaps I was also lucky to have good public relations which led me to quickly gain recognition. as a photographer nationally and internationally. Most photographers are only thinking about how beautiful they can make their photos, but they forget a very important key factor and that is marketing, because porn is essential to think about how to make a photograph more and more beautiful but… what are you going to do? live if no one pays you well? You should think of marketing strategies that will lead you to commercial success, at least that’s what I think. You have to invest in advertising that allows you to attract new clients, it is also necessary to invest time and money in your personal projects for your own portfolio, make exhibitions, participate in contests and whenever possible continue studying. I can summarize this in that the person who wants success must do everything possible to achieve it, success does not come by itself to the door of your house.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Depending on your taste, if you want a crowded beach and a young atmosphere, South Beach, you can also eat a wide variety there, but if you want some privacy, I love going to Virginia Key and having a delicious bbq.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first photography teacher Claudia Arana
