We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony Dorcelus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for starting my own business was to create opportunities for those who were always overlooked, or not considered to be of popular choice. When I was in high school I remember working for a company that overworked you and underpaid you. To be honest their management style always made me say to myself “I will never treat my employees and/or team members this way”. “I will always treat them with love, respect, and consideration.” If you want a successful and longevity team, being humane is a necessity. Growing up I always had the vision to work with a team of dreamers who did not limit their beliefs. A team who cared for people, real-life situations, while also remaining business-minded and professional; you know, having a balance. My thought process behind starting my own business is to help push every individual to leap into their best selves while under my leadership. Reminding them that the only person who can stop their dreams from coming true is the person they see when they look in the mirror. While having a great team is important, I am most grateful that God gave me the vision to pursue my own business Lady in the Mirror International Inc., where our mission is to rebuild girls and women who suffer from low self-esteem and have experienced emotional, and sexual trauma by providing mentorship and resources. It doesn’t matter who you are, girl, boy, woman, or man, this company will have something put in place that will bless your entire life. My thought process for starting my own business was to impact lives, provide opportunities and bring a different perspective to high level companies. You can be the CEO and still have a heart to serve others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am proud and excited that Lady in the Mirror International will be doing amazing things in the community. I have the opportunity to bless the youth specifically seniors in high school. (That’s a hint for you). What sets me apart from others is, I am not afraid to go for it. When the vision is in my head, you better believe I am going to do everything I can to see it manifest and I won’t stop until it does! My perseverance, resilience, and belief motivate me, that’s how I got to where I am today. Tell me I can’t and I will. I was not always confident growing up, I had to nurture my self-esteem and jump over some obstacles to become the woman I am today. One lesson I learned over time is to stop sharing your dreams with individuals who have no excitement or drive. Do not expect anyone to see the vision as big as you do, because it was not their vision to carry, it is yours. I will encourage you to never settle and never quit. I will also remind you of this, You are unstoppable even when you feel defeated.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– I am definitely taking my best friend to Kaluz restaurant as soon as they get off the plane!! It is my absolute favorite, and the service is always great. Lol! – We will take a visit to Massage Envy; self-care is important!
– I would find a nice live show at the Broward Performance Arts Center.
– We would definitely go rollerblading and bike riding at South Pointe Park.
– Now, I cannot let my best friend head home without going to church!!! We will absolutely be in church on Sunday at Lighthouse Worship Center!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout-out to Dr. Tschanna Taylor and the entire Reaffirmed Book Anthology family. We did a book collaboration under the leadership of Dr. Taylor and the direction of God, I must say it was life-changing. This book project Reaffirmed stretched us and it pulled things out of us individually that needed to be birthed. I have to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to Dr. Tschanna and the entire Reaffirmed family. You guys are simply amazing.
