We had the good fortune of connecting with Erica Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erica, what role has risk played in your life or career?

Risks are opportunities to grow. They may be scary and discomforting but the end reward will be worth it. If you don’t take risks, you will always live in “What If’s”. I’ve always been a risk taker. If someone tells me I can’t do something, I will always take the risk no matter how bizarre it may seem. That’s what led me to barbering. There’s only a handful of female barbers in the industry. Some have given up because of sexism. But I’m here to defy the odds. Becoming a barber and being that I’m a female, was a risk in itself because it’s a male dominated field. The journey hasn’t been easy but with determination and will power, anything is possible. Risks play a major role in my career. Taking a risk led me to become a better me. Growing up becoming an entrepreneur was never spoke of, but I will be the first to create generational wealth.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im a mobile barber here in Miami ,Fl . I service all of Miami Dade and Broward . I started Ekutz in 2017 . I really was annoyed with barbershops and the waiting periods . So I went and taught myself how cut my own hair . And I never looked back . I mastered the craft and began offering services to family and friends . Due to social media and word of mouth , my client grew vastly . It wasn’t easy getting here being that everything was financed by myself , I had downfalls also . From losing clientele to car maintenance issues, everything I’ve dealt with it . But I keep pushing everyday because if I give up , who is going to carry this ? Nobody but me . I just figure out alternate options and make it happen . It’s a part of business.. I want the world to know that I’m reliable and I have great customer service. Ekutz is growing and advancing everyday . It’s about the experience. It’s way more than just a cut .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to shooters for brunch , Houston’s for dinner . Maybe a strip club that night . We would go shopping at aventura mall . Hang out at ft lauderdale beach and walk the strip . Go to las olas the next night . Club euro is nice and the bodega. We would make sure to go to Fat Tuesdays . The blue martini. The next got to K1 speed for some fun . Go to wynwood, check out some art . Coyo is nice in wynwood . I was upset that wood tavern closed that was a dope place . We would rent slingshots and ride on the beach . It’s so much to do here

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents . If it wasn’t for them none of this , Ekutz wouldn’t be here.
