We had the good fortune of connecting with Eva B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eva, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from a small town in Denmark named Birkerød. My love of art started with my mother who was an artist and would take me with her to art class after school. My mother also fueled my love of tennis. At home, all of the siblings played tennis and eventually became quite good at it. At one time, as a junior player, my brother was ranked number one in Denmark. The first jobs I had when I first moved to the United States was teaching tennis to a group of young children at Camp Kippewa in Monmouth, Maine at Camp Oxford Guilford in Guilford, New York. I spent many years improving my tennis skills and actually held a championship record of winning 13 straight seasons at my tennis club in Colorado.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started focusing on my art again when I found myself restructuring my life after a divorce. I am very inspired by colors and bold designs. I am incredibly proud of having had the opportunity to showcase some of my art in New York at a gallery opening that was also a fundraiser to raise awareness on cleaning up our oceans. It was a wonderful experience. I have been learning new mediums trying to determine my true style. Bright Acrylic paint and solvent paints are my favorites right now, but I have been really drawn to learning better techniques with watercolors and pastels. Putting the correct colors together can create an amazing art experience for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am lucky enough to live close to Fairchild Botanical Gardens and frequent it often. I like taking my out of town guests there because it’s so beautiful and peaceful and there is always some activity happening there. Key Biscayne and Miami Beach are usually excellent places to visit because of the gorgeous views. The city of Coconut Grove is so naturally beautiful and always has some great music or art event going on and has excellent restaurants and activities. Key Largo and Key West are just too magical to not share with out of towners. My three favorite restaurants to take my friends are Hillstone on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables and two local spots in my neighborhood – a lovely family owned French bistro named La Crepe Bistro and Kitchen 57 that has a wonderful menu of American Cuisine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shout out goes out to my mother. She inspired and influenced me to get better at art and to be competitive as a tennis player. My mother, my brothers and myself played tennis very often and continued to play into our adulthood. I am thankful to have amazing friends that support me and my art. My dear friend Cricket Taplin continues to introduce me to people in the art world and takes me to art events to help me network. She is an amazing cheerleader.
