We had the good fortune of connecting with Fatt Mike and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fatt, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Maryland, born in Homestead Miami. My upbringing impacted how I am today a lot because of the things I went through as a child. It wasn’t rough or bad but there was plenty of ups and downs far as school, at home and growing up without a male figure throughout my life. Those things helped me become who I am now.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The music I make represent who I am. I rap/sing about living a better life, staying out of drama, making money, driving fast cars and love. I try to separate myself from other artist in my area by staying in my lane and having my own flow. I’m not a trap rapper because that’s not me I didn’t come from any of that. I stand on being real and making music about the things I actually do and have done. What I talk about is the things I’ve experienced and went through. I’m proud of the fact that I had the opportunity to open for Megan The Stallion at the pre summer jam at SOB in New York, it was a great opportunity. Being able to do shows is a blessing. Being on stage in front of a crowd and actually seeing them vibe with me is amazing. In the beginning of my music career It wasn’t bad but I notice that the music I was making wasn’t really all so great. I was making music that wasn’t really relating to the crowd and that kind of made me switch how I make music. Now I make music about how to love. That’s why I named my tape love, hustle, peace. Meaning of that. Love (love yours) Hustle (stay on your grind and get your money) Peace (Keep the peace and stay positive) that’s literally what I rap/sing about.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to Maggianos, as my good man Kev and kris would say (go get you some good Riggatonis) I would take them to see some good car action. We got the good race cars in our city for sure and I would take them around old town Virginia and show them how beautiful the scenery is.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll like to thank god for allowing me to still be here on this earth that’s first, I’ll like to also shoutout everyone that has been around throughout my life and watch me grow. But I have to give a huge shout out to my brother Isaiah (mellozee) without him I wouldn’t have started doing music. I’ll like to also thank Jeremy (Jefor) for being such a inspirational friend, always showing me the right direction and never leading me the wrong way. Also my mom, nana, Grandma, Jermaine they’ve been huge throughout my life and I can’t thank them enough for still being there for me even when I get in my ways. They have all supported me through my music journey
